Kathy & Dylan Are Giving Back! 🧹🌳 The couple took the 250 Pickers Challenge, picking up litter along the trail through Prairie Park and NIU, at Hopkins Park and along the Nature Trail. These are areas they've enjoyed since moving to DeKalb, so they decided to give back!

Help clean up your favorite parts of DeKalb by checking out a litter picker for free at the DeKalb Public Library and emailing your cleanup photo to [email protected].

❓Did you know that Baron DeKalb was born a peasant in Germany and became one of the most highly respected people in France?

🏛 The majority of people in our area are not sure why the city of DeKalb would we be named after a little-known revolutionary war hero who actually never came here and was from France. Join us this Thursday, 9/3, from 12-1 at the Ellwood House Museum Visitor Center as we explore many more reasons why we should be proud to live in a city named after this brave man.

🛍 The “Brown Bag Lunch Lecture Series,” is a series free monthly programs offered in collaboration by the Ellwood House Museum and DeKalb County History Center. Registration is not necessary, and participants are welcome to bring lunch and eat during the program. This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council.

Prepare for takeoff at our annual “8 Countries in 1 Day” event when we take you on a journey around the globe!

Play Riču-Raču in Latvia, craft Muñecas Limé in the Dominican Republic, sample smoked salmon spread in Iceland, and much more! Other countries included will be Sweden, Ghana, and Ireland. This year we will also portray Colonial America as part of the America 250 initiative. Each country will have crafts, activities, and free food.

The library welcomes back the Northern Illinois University’s International Student Affairs as a partner.

Gather in the main lobby for big performances throughout the event!

11:30 a.m.: Nordland Band: Scandinavian Music from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland

1:00 p.m.: NIU Mariachi Ensemble

No registration is required to attend this free event. All are welcome!
