The City of DeFuniak Springs Fire Department page is created and maintained by the Fire Department Staff for the purpose of communicating with the residents and visitors we serve. The DeFuniak Springs Fire Department was happy to welcome of Valparaiso, FL, to the station and is incredibly grateful for their generous donation of Powerade for our firefighters!

Firefighters often work in demanding conditions and high temperatures, making hydration an important part of staying ready and safe while responding to emergencies. Donations like this help keep our crews refreshed and prepared to serve when our community needs them.

We are fortunate to have businesses and community partners who take the time to support our first responders. Gestures like this are a wonderful reminder of the strong community spirit that makes DeFuniak Springs such a special place.

🔥 Great News for DeFuniak Springs! 🔥

The DeFuniak Springs Fire Department has received the results of its latest ISO Public Protection Classification review, advancing from a Class 5/5X to a Class 4/4X, effective October 1, 2026!

This achievement reflects the ongoing efforts of Fire Chief Ross Sheffield and the firefighters of the DeFuniak Springs Fire Department, whose commitment to training, preparedness, and reliable emergency response continues to strengthen fire protection for our residents, businesses, and visitors.

The City also recognizes the City staff, Walton County emergency communications personnel, and City water system personnel whose work and resources contributed to this achievement.

The City of DeFuniak Springs Fire Department invites our community to come together for a 9/11 Memorial Walk, honoring the lives lost, the heroes who responded, and the spirit of service and remembrance that continues to unite us.

The DeFuniak Springs City Council adopted Resolution 2026-11, approving the Fire Services Assessment for Fiscal Year 2026–27.

Approved Assessment Rates:
🏠 Residential: $100 per dwelling unit
🏢 Commercial: $0.07 per square foot
🏭 Industrial/Warehouse: $0.01 per square foot
🏫 Institutional: $0.16 per square foot
🌳 Vacant Land Property Use: $29 per parcel

Important Exemption Information:
Certain exemptions apply to the Fire Services Assessment.
🏫 Institutional Properties: Schools, government, and municipal properties that qualify as exempt are not subject to the assessment. Qualifying nonprofit organizations and churches may also be exempt.

🌳 Vacant Land: Vacant land classified as agricultural property is exempt.

💰 Hardship Assistance: Eligible property owners may apply for hardship assistance.
Applications must be submitted no later than 30 days after October 1. Additional information and the application are available on the City Clerk's page:

A heartfelt thank-you to Casey’s (US Hwy 90 West Location) for generously providing lunch for the DeFuniak Springs Fire Department! 🚒🍕❤️

Our firefighters dedicate themselves each day to protecting lives, property, and the community we all call home. Whether responding to an emergency, assisting a resident in need, participating in community events, or supporting neighboring agencies, they remain ready to serve with courage, compassion, and professionalism.

Thoughtful gestures like this mean more than simply providing a meal. They remind our firefighters that their dedication and sacrifices are seen, valued, and appreciated. We are incredibly grateful to Casey’s for taking the time to recognize our department and for being such a supportive community partner.
