Liberty Fire District – Shed Fire Response

Juniper Lake Drive – Juniper Lake Community

Earlier today, Liberty Fire District responded to a reported structure fire on Juniper Lake Drive in the Oakridge Community. The reporting party advised there was a house on fire across the lake from their location.

Liberty Fire District was assisted by Argyle Fire District , City of DeFuniak Springs Fire Department and Walton County Fire Rescue, Florida.

Units from all four departments arrived on scene within moments of each other and immediately initiated fire suppression operations while simultaneously protecting the adjacent residence from exposure to the fire.

Thanks to the rapid response and coordinated efforts of the first-arriving crews, the fire was contained to the shed, and no residential structures were damaged.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

This incident highlights the value of strong mutual aid partnerships and the dedication of firefighters across Walton County. Working together, crews were able to quickly control the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.

Update - Fire units have cleared the scene.

Liberty Fire District is currently on scene of a traffic crash at Kings Lake Road and Ingalls Road.

Please use extreme caution in the area, slow down, and watch for emergency crews working near the roadway.

Today, Liberty Fire District pauses to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation.

Memorial Day is more than a holiday — it is a time to reflect on the sacrifices made to protect the freedoms we enjoy every day. We are forever grateful to those who answered the call and never came home.

Please keep the families of our fallen heroes in your thoughts today and take a moment to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day.

It’s apparently Chief John Dunham Jr.’s birthday today… and yes, we know it’s late.

In true fire service fashion, the paperwork got delayed, the radio traffic was nonstop, somebody forgot to hit “send,” and we probably should’ve toned this out earlier.🚒📟

But before the day ends, Liberty Fire District would like to wish Chief Dunham a very Happy Birthday and thank him for his dedication, leadership, and commitment to serving our community.

We hope you at least got one hot meal today and didn’t have to answer “Chief, you got a minute?” too many times.

Liberty Fire District Mutual Aid Response

Liberty Fire District responded mutual aid to Walton County Fire Rescue for a reported shed fire off Black Cherry Drive.

Attack 7 arrived on scene approximately 8 minutes after dispatch and found a small shed fully involved.

The Attack 7 crew began fire extinguishment with water on the fire in less than one minute after arrival.

Strong work by the 1st arriving crew.

Mutual aid partnerships are critical to protecting our communities. When departments work together, everyone goes home safer.

8:15am UPDATE - Fire Units have cleared the scene. Florida Power & Light is on scene replacing a power pole so expect road closer until this is complete.

Traffic Alert – Woodyard Road

Woodyard Road is closed at the County shop area due to a broken power pole with power lines across the roadway.

Please avoid the area, use an alternate route, and do not approach or drive over any downed power lines.

Crews have been notified. Updates will be provided when available.

Today is International Firefighters’ Day — a day to recognize the men and women who answer the call when others need help.

At Liberty Fire District, we are proud to be operated by volunteers.

Volunteer firefighters give their time, energy, training, and commitment to protect their neighbors, often while balancing full-time jobs, families, and everyday life.

Volunteer fire service is more than responding to emergencies. It strengthens the community through fire prevention, public education, storm response, medical response, community events, and simply being there when someone needs help the most.

To every firefighter, especially those serving as volunteers: thank you for your courage, commitment, and service.
