Summer is finally here!
Please stay well hydrated and protect your skin when exposed to direct sunlight.
Heat can also affect your medicines. Keep them away from direct sunlight, warm cars, steamy bathrooms or a hot stove. Some medicines must be kept cold, so you may need to store them in a refrigerator.
Knowing how your medicines should be stored is an important way to stay healthy. With a little planning and care, you can protect yourself and maintain your best health in the summer.
If you have any questions about whether your medicines are affected by heat, or how to safely store them, ask your VA healthcare team or your civilian medical provider.
We hope you have a safe, happy, healthy and fun summer!

Attention to Veterans who are receive 100% VA disability compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs regarding homestead exemptions (You will need to present your VA Decision Letters to the county auditor as proof of rating.):

From the Defiance County Auditor:
Continuing homestead applications are being prepared to be sent out, so property owners are asked to look for them in the mail. 🔜These must be signed and returned by June 1.

New applications for the homestead exemption are being accepted through Dec. 31.

Those who owned their home as of Jan. 1 may qualify if they are age 65 or older this year or are totally and permanently disabled (if under age 65) and their Ohio adjusted gross 2025 income does not exceed $41,000.

An Ohio doctor’s signature is required on the disabled application. Those who turn 65 this year may sign up now.

Those who qualified last year and didn’t file can file a late filer application along with this year’s initial application.

Call 419-782-1926 or 1-800675-3953 with questions.

Property owners who have had structural damage due to fire, storms, flooding or intentional demolition can pick up a “destroyed property form” in the real estate assessor’s office for a reduction in property value. This form is also used to report a building or structure that has been removed from a property.
