Happy Martin Luther King Day!
One of my favorite Martin Luther King stories revolves around the copyright protection his speeches have. I am not sure of the accuracy of the following, but I do hope its true, because I think it reflects well upon the man.
As man doing dangerous things, Martin Luther King found it was difficult to get life insurance. So he copyrighted the speeches and left them to his family to make sure they were provided for if something unfortunate happened to him.
Actually, brilliant. And for those who complain that the King family should give up that copyright, I would point out that we never ask a family to sacrifice more than one person for the country. (In the military I believe that is called the Sole Survivor Policy after 5 brothers who served together in the Pacific and died when there light cruiser was sunk). The Kings have done their fair share for us, and have paid enough.
I hope his legacy keeps his children far from poverty and harm.
May we all have a dream
