25 Years Later - Honoring Their Sacrifice. 🇺🇸

The Deer Park Fire Department is proud of our own Firefighter Eric Helm, who participated in a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Retro Fitness in Deer Park on September 11th, raising over $500 for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation in honor of the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

Wearing his turnout gear and SCBA, Eric climbed 110 stories on the StairMaster, representing the 110 floors firefighters climbed inside the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. With every step, he honored those who continued upward into unimaginable danger to save others.

Eric wasn’t even born when the attacks of September 11th took place. Yet 25 years later, he chose to honor a generation of firefighters he never had the opportunity to know, those who ran toward the danger when others were running away.

Firefighting is in his blood, and remembering those who came before him is part of carrying that tradition forward.

Eric, your DPFD family is proud of you. Thank you for honoring their sacrifice and helping ensure we ‘Never Forget’. 🇺🇸🚒

Twenty-five years ago today, our nation changed forever.

The Deer Park Fire Department remembers the lives lost on September 11, 2001, including the 343 members of the FDNY who made the ultimate sacrifice and the members of our own Deer Park community who never came home.

We also remember the first responders who answered the call that morning and those we have lost in the years since from 9/11-related illnesses.

Twenty-five years later, our promise remains the same.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸

🇺🇸 25 YEARS — WE WILL NEVER FORGET 🇺🇸

The Deer Park Fire Department is honored to join the Town of Babylon and the Town of Babylon Fire Chiefs Association in remembering the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We invite our members, families, friends, and the Deer Park community to join us Friday, September 11 at 6:00 PM at the 9/11 Hometown Memorial between Overlook and Cedar Beaches as we gather to remember, reflect, and honor the 25th anniversary of that tragic day.

Following the ceremony, a dedication of the new Post-9/11 Memorial will take place.

Twenty-five years later, our promise remains the same:

We remember the lives lost.
We honor the heroes.
We will never forget. 🇺🇸

Today we recognize the hardworking men and women who help build, serve and strengthen our community every day.

This photo says it best, years of service, decades of dedication, and still showing up. That same commitment can be found throughout our department and throughout the Deer Park community. 💪🫶

On that tragic day, September 11, 2001, Deer Park lost members of our own community. Twenty-five years later, their names, their lives, and their sacrifice remain forever in our hearts and a part of who we are.

The Deer Park Fire Department is asking our community to show up and remember with us. 🇺🇸

For generations, when our neighbors have needed us, we have answered the call. On Sunday, September 13th, we’re asking you to answer ours.

Join us alongside our local organizations, families, friends, and neighbors as we honor the Deer Park residents we lost on that tragic day, remember all those whose lives were taken on September 11th, and honor those we have lost since due to 9/11-related illnesses.

We show up for our community. On this day, we hope our community will show up with us.

🚨 SECONDS MATTER - PLEASE MOVE TO THE RIGHT 🚨

When you see a vehicle displaying a flashing blue light, it may be a Deer Park Fire Department volunteer responding in their personal vehicle to the firehouse or an emergency scene. When it is safe, please signal, move to the right and allow them to pass. Although a blue light is a request for courtesy, your cooperation can help our volunteers reach emergency equipment sooner, safer while every second counts.

🚒🚑🚓🚨When an emergency vehicle approaches with flashing emergency lights and a siren, safely pull to the right and stop. Remain stopped until it has passed.

🚧🦺🚨 When approaching an emergency scene:

• Slow down and be prepared to stop or be diverted.
• Follow all directions from fire police, law enforcement and emergency personnel.
• NEVER drive around emergency vehicles, over fire hose, around barricades or attempt to enter a closed roadway.
• Put down your phone and watch carefully for responders, vehicles and equipment.
• Please be patient and understanding.

🛑 Traffic may be temporarily stopped or redirected to protect victims, first responders and everyone traveling through the area.

A few moments of patience could help save a life including ours. 🫶

This past Friday, members of the Deer Park Fire Department had the honor of visiting Ex-Chief Frank Pfister at the Veterans Home in Stony Brook to celebrate his 92nd birthday. 🎂

During our visit, Ex-Chief Pfister was presented with several honors, including recognition for an incredible 65 years of dedicated service to our department. The afternoon was filled with memories, stories, and plenty of laughs, a truly special visit with someone who has given so much to the DPFD family.

Happy 92nd Birthday, Chief Pfister, and thank you for 65 years of service, leadership, and brotherhood.

Taking care of our own isn’t just something we say, it’s who we are and what we do! ❤️
