Today we welcomed Riverside High School senior Liam for our Student of the Year Ride-In experience!

Liam was selected for his giving spirit and dedication to serving others through countless volunteer hours at school events, including the Thanksgiving meal and RAM Fest. During his visit, Liam received a full station tour, learned about the equipment carried on our engine, and got a firsthand look at how firefighters use their tools to serve the community.

After graduation, Liam plans to attend Eastern Washington University and participate in the Army ROTC program while pursuing a degree in Engineering. His goal is to become an Army officer and serve with the Army Corps of Engineers. Liam has also received a letter of recommendation from Senator Cantwell for admission to West Point and is currently on the nationwide waitlist.

A special thank you to C Shift at Station 46, Brennan, John, and Cole, for making Liam and his father feel welcome, providing a detailed tour, and answering their many questions. An extra thanks to John for giving up his officer's seat so Liam could experience riding in the engine. Judging by the huge smile on his face when we dropped him off, it was an experience he won't soon forget.

Congratulations, Liam, and thank you for making a positive difference in your school and community. We wish you the very best in your future endeavors!

We've received several questions regarding the current burn restrictions and want to provide some clarification.

Rule burning is currently prohibited. This includes the burning of yard debris, brush piles, leaves, branches, and other natural vegetation.

Recreational fires are still allowed on improved property when they are:
• Contained in an approved recreational fire pit
• Used for recreation, pleasure, warmth, or cooking
• Fueled only with dry, seasoned firewood
• Properly attended with extinguishment equipment readily available

Burning natural vegetation, yard waste, brush, leaves, grass, or other debris is not allowed under the current restrictions.
As conditions continue to dry across our region, we encourage everyone to use caution with any outdoor fire, have a plan in place with a suitable water source available and ensure fires are completely extinguished before leaving the area.
For the latest burn restriction information, visit Washington DNR's burn restrictions page:

Thank you for helping us keep our communities safe.

🚨Calls for Service Continue to Rise🚨

Spokane County Fire District 4 responded to 396 calls for service in May, bringing our 2026 year-to-date total to 1,890 calls.

Compared to the same time last year, the District has responded to 192 more calls, an increase of just over 11%. This continued growth reflects the increasing demand for emergency services across our community and the dedication of our firefighters, EMTs, and support staff who answer the call every day.

Thank you for your continued support of Spokane County Fire District 4 as we remain committed to serving our residents 24/7.

🔥 In case you hadn't heard...

Washington DNR has implemented a burn ban for all recreational and rule burns in our area.

That means the backyard brush pile and cozy evening fire pit will need to wait. 🔥🚫

The only outdoor burning currently allowed is permitted burns and fires in designated campground fire pits.

With warmer temperatures and dry conditions arriving early, now is the time to help prevent wildfires before they start.

For current burn restrictions and updates, visit: https://www.dnr.wa.gov/burn-restrictions

Please help spread the word to friends, family, and neighbors who may not have seen the announcement.

🔥 Stay Vigilant, Stay Prepared 🔥

As we head into the summer months, the Inland Northwest faces a serious threat from dangerous fire weather. Hot, dry conditions combined with gusty winds mean that a single spark can lead to a rapidly moving wildfire.

Before you head outside for work, yard maintenance, or summer recreation, always check the weather forecast first. Let's work together to keep our community safe.

This week we kicked off the first of 7 *SCFD4 Student of the Year rides with Austin from Deer Park High School!

Austin was selected by his school for the positive impact he has on those around him, and judging by the turnout and support from his fellow students, it’s easy to see why he is so well respected.

Over the past 4 years, Austin has been involved in DECA and has also spent his time umpiring girls softball games, including at the State Tournament last weekend in Yakima. Whether he chooses to pursue sales classes at SFCC or a future in teaching, we know he’ll continue making a difference wherever he goes, always with a smile.

Congratulations, Austin, and thank you for allowing SCFD4 to be part of your special moment!

*The 2nd Annual SCFD4 Student of the Year program partners with our district high schools and middle schools to recognize students who go above and beyond outside the classroom through volunteerism, community service, and selfless acts that positively impact their schools and communities. Because service to others is the backbone of SCFD4, each selected student gets to arrive at school in style with a ride in one of our fire apparatus, complete with lights and sirens.

As we enter wildfire season, it's important to understand what causes wildfires so that we can all do our part to prevent them. Wildfires are caused by a spark (usually man-made) in the presence of fuel (dry vegetation) and oxygen. Strong winds, high temperatures, low humidity and drought conditions can further impact the fire’s spread. For more information on protecting yourself from wildfires, visit weather.gov/safety/wildfire.
