Traffic Offenses Lead to Two Drug Busts by Decherd PD in Less Than a Week
On June 9, Decherd Sgt. Marion was alerted to a suspended driver operating a white Ford Ranger on Decherd Blvd. Sgt. Marion attempted to stop the vehicle near Save-A-Lot. The vehicle briefly stopped then Sgt. Marion observed drugs being thrown out the passenger window. The vehicle fled through the parking lot and jumped into the parking lot of Fast Pace before coming to a stop. Sgt. Marion took the passenger, Robert Beger of Elora, into custody and other officers arrived to assist and recovered the drugs as well as taking the driver, Eddie Williams of Wi******er, into custody. An approximate total of 4 ounces of methamphetamine along with paraphernalia consistent with narcotics distribution was recovered from the scene. Both occupants were arrested and charged sale/delivery of methamphetamine and other violations related to the stop.
On Jun 15, Decherd officers were dispatched to Dollar General at 1755 Decherd Blvd due to a male being passed out behind the wheel of a blue SUV parked in the fire lane. Officers arrived to find Kemsley Wilton of Toney, Alabama asleep behind the wheel. Officer Clark observed a bottle of Grey Goose vodka in the vehicle and had Mr. Wilton step out to perform field sobriety tests. Sgt. Marion observed a baggie with a white powdery substance in the driver’s door handle when Mr. Wilton stepped out of the vehicle. A further search of the vehicle was conducted which revealed several baggies of what is believed to be co***ne totaling roughly 21 grams, 19 tabs believed to be L*D, 15 pills believed to be M**A, and paraphernalia consistent with the distribution of narcotics. Mr. Wilton was arrested for DUI and sell/delivery of Schedule I and Schedule II drugs and associated violations.
All subjects mentioned in these incidents are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
