What a fantastic day at CompassionCon yesterday!

We had the opportunity to meet so many amazing people, share information about the impact of CASA with potential volunteers and community members, and reconnect with current and former volunteers who stopped by our table. It was truly a wonderful day of community, connection, and advocacy for children experiencing foster care.

A special thank you to our CASA Volunteers Jessica D., Bass T., and Gerri V.; Education Advocates Lesley T. and Kimberly W.; Intern Brittany R.; and Recruitment and Retention Coordinator Justine Ferreira, for representing DeKalb CASA so well. Thank you for sharing your experiences, promoting our upcoming Volunteer Information Sessions, and generously giving your time to engage with the community.

We appreciate each of you and the passion you bring to our mission every day. 💙

💜 Join DeKalb County CASA at CompassionCon! 💜

We're excited to be part of CompassionCon on Sunday, October 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

📍 You'll find the DeKalb County CASA Program in the Civil and Human Rights Town Center area. Just look for the purple markers and stop by our table!

Meet our staff, intern, CASA, and Education Advocate volunteers and learn more about how we're working to ensure every child in foster care has a voice.

While you're there, you can:

✨ Learn about the DeKalb County CASA Program
✨ Explore volunteer opportunities
✨ Pick up information
✨ Create a link in our Compassion Chain of Encouragement

Our Compassion Chain is an opportunity to share a word, phrase, or message of support for the children and families we serve, as well as for the dedicated volunteers who advocate for them. Together, we'll create a visual reminder that compassion, encouragement, and community support can make a lasting difference.

We hope you'll stop by, connect with us, and add your voice to the chain!

💜 Every child deserves a voice. Every child deserves hope.

Permanency doesn't look the same for every child. For some, it means reunification with family. For others, it's guardianship, placement with relatives or fictive kin, or adoption. Whatever the outcome, DeKalb County CASA's role is to keep a child's needs and best interests at the center of the case as it moves forward.

Save this post and share it with someone who cares about child welfare.

Wondering whether CASA is the right fit for you? Before committing, ask yourself a few honest questions.

🔹Can I make time for calls, visits, appointments, and court?
🔹Am I able to speak with everyone involved in a case?
🔹Can I stay objective, even when a case gets complicated?
🔹Am I ready to complete the training?
🔹Why does CASA matter to me?

These questions aren't meant to discourage anyone. They're meant to help you choose a commitment you can actually sustain.

Our work is rooted in the community we serve. DeKalb County CASA is based within the juvenile courthouse in Decatur, working alongside caregivers, relatives, service providers, attorneys, and court personnel to support kids across DeKalb County. Every one of those people plays a part in a child's case, and our volunteer advocates help keep the child's needs and voice at the center of it all.

🍎📚 Happy World Teachers' Day! 📚🍎

Today, we celebrate the educators who inspire, encourage, and empower children every day. Teachers do so much more than teach academic subjects. They provide stability, support, mentorship, and encouragement, often serving as trusted adults during some of life's most challenging moments.

At DeKalb County CASA, we are grateful for the teachers, school counselors, administrators, and education professionals who partner with us to support children experiencing foster care. Your dedication helps ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and reach their full potential.
