Flint City VFD Responds to Residential Fire in Hartselle

HARTSELLE, Ala. — On Thursday, September 3, 2026, at approximately 7:21 p.m., Flint City Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched as automatic mutual aid with Oak Ridge Volunteer Fire Department for a reported residential structure fire in the 100 block of Oak Ridge Ln.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a mobile home fully involved in fire. Crews from Flint City and Oak Ridge worked together to bring the fire under control and extinguish the blaze.

The residence was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

At approximately 10:07 p.m., Flint City VFD and Oak Ridge VFD were dispatched back to the residence for a reported rekindle. Firefighters located and extinguished the remaining fire before clearing the scene.

Flint City VFD appreciates the assistance and cooperation of Oak Ridge VFD personnel throughout the incident.

🔥 HEAT SAFETY REMINDER 🔥

A Heat Advisory remains in effect for Northern Alabama through 7 PM Monday, with temperatures reaching the mid to upper 90s and heat index values ranging from 100° to 110°.

With this dangerous heat, Flint City VFD encourages everyone to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity—especially during the hottest part of the day—and take frequent breaks in a cool or air-conditioned area.

⚠️ Know the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Heat exhaustion may include:
• Dizziness
• Heavy sweating
• Nausea
• Weakness
• Excessive thirst

Move to a cooler area, loosen clothing, and slowly sip cool water. Heat exhaustion can progress to heat stroke if the person does not cool down.

🚨 HEAT STROKE IS A MEDICAL EMERGENCY.

Signs may include confusion, severe dizziness, altered mental status, or loss of consciousness. If signs of heat stroke are present, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY. Begin cooling the person while emergency responders are on the way.

Please check on children, older adults, neighbors, outdoor workers, and others who may be especially vulnerable during periods of extreme heat.

Huntsville, AL – On Friday, August 7, 2026, members of the Flint City Volunteer Fire Department had the opportunity to spend the day with the Cahaba Shriners in Huntsville as they hosted the 2026 Southeast Shrine Convention.

Representing Flint City VFD at the event were Chief Jason Haggard, Assistant Chief Pete Johnson, and Treasurer Jacob Hamilton. Our members were honored to take part in the festivities by serving as judges for the 2026 Southeast Shrine Hillbillies Competition. It was a fun and memorable event, and we thoroughly enjoyed getting to meet and spend time with Shriners from across the Southeast.

We would like to extend a special thank you to the Cahaba Shriners and everyone involved with the Southeast Shrine Convention for inviting Flint City VFD to be a part of this year's event and for making our members feel so welcome.

Beyond the fun and fellowship associated with Shrine events, Shriners are dedicated to an incredible mission. Through Shriners Children's, they help provide specialized pediatric care to children and families, regardless of a family's ability to pay. Their continued dedication to helping children and supporting families is something we greatly appreciate and are proud to recognize.

Thank you again to the Shriners for allowing Flint City VFD to share in such a great day. We had a wonderful time judging the competition and are grateful for the opportunity to be a small part of this year's convention!

Flint City VFD Responds to Rollover Crash on Red Bank Road

Decatur, AL – On Friday, August 7, 2026, at approximately 8:01 p.m., Flint City Volunteer Fire Department, along with the Decatur Police Department, was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash with rollover in the 2600 block of Red Bank Road SW.

Upon arrival, units located a vehicle on its top in a driveway. The driver and passenger of the vehicle were not injured.

Flint City VFD remained on scene to assist with safety operations while the tow service worked to flip the vehicle back onto its wheels and load it onto the wrecker.

We would like to thank the Decatur Police Department for their assistance and coordination during the incident.

Flint City VFD reminds everyone to use caution while driving, remain alert, and always wear your seat belt.

Praying for our brothers and sisters at SAVES, the benson family as well as the little child!

Our community has always been able to count on Kaleb and Amber Benson. As dedicated members of the S.A.V.E.S Fire and Rescue. They have spent countless hours serving others, answering calls, and standing beside neighbors during some of their hardest moments. Their commitment to our community has never wavered.

Now, they are facing the unimaginable.

Their beloved one year old son recently suffered a medical emergency that resulted in a drowning incident. As their family focuses on his care, healing, and simply being together, they should not have to carry the additional burden of financial stress.

We’re asking our community to come together for a family that has given so much to others. Every donation, no matter the amount, will help ease the financial strain of medical expenses, travel, time away from work, and the many unexpected costs that come with a tragedy like this.

Flint City VFD Responds to Single-Vehicle Crash on Norris Mill Road

Hartselle, AL – On Thursday, July 30, 2026, at approximately 11:02 p.m., the Flint City Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the 5100 block of Norris Mill Road following an iPhone Crash Detection notification with no contact from the occupants.

While firefighters were searching the area, officers with the Decatur Police Department located a white Ford Mustang that had left the roadway near the Flint Creek Bridge.

Upon arrival, Flint City VFD crews immediately began working to safely remove the injured driver from the vehicle. Once the driver was removed, EMS personnel began medical treatment before transporting the patient to a local hospital for further care.

After the patient was transported, Flint City VFD remained on scene to assist with vehicle recovery as the tow service removed the vehicle from the wooded area.

We would like to thank the Decatur Police Department and EMS for their assistance and coordination during this incident.

We remind everyone to drive safely, especially during nighttime hours, and encourage motorists to wear their seat belts at all times.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the City Of Decatur, as well as the seal family!

The City of Decatur is heartbroken by the loss of Chris Seal, a longtime employee of our Parks and Recreation Department.

Chris faithfully served the City of Decatur and its residents for 21 years. He was a valued member of our City family, and his loss will be deeply felt throughout our organization.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris’ family, friends, coworkers, and all who knew him. We ask our community to keep them in your prayers and respect their privacy during this difficult time.
