🚨 TRAFFIC ALERT 🚨

**Update: traffic is clear

Please use caution on Hwy 503 near Rose Rd., just north of I-20, due to a four-vehicle MVA.

Newton County Sheriff’s Office is currently on scene. Fire and EMS are en route, along with Mississippi Highway Patrol.

⚠️ The southbound lane of Hwy 503 is currently blocked.

Please slow down, stay alert, and give emergency crews plenty of room to work. Avoid the area if possible.

August kept our dispatchers busy! During the month, Newton County E-911 handled a total of 3,132 calls.

🔴 1,033 were 911 calls
🔵 2,099 were administrative calls

That averages out to over 100 calls a day coming into our center!

Whether it’s a 911 call, someone needing assistance on a non-emergency line, or one of our responders communicating with dispatch, our dispatchers are here answering the call 24/7, 365 days a year.

We just want to take a minute to say THANK YOU to all of our Newton County fire departments! 🚒

With the heat we’ve been having lately, our firefighters have been working hard responding to grass fires and woods fires throughout the county. Fighting fires is hard enough, but doing it in this Mississippi heat makes it even tougher.

A lot of our firefighters are volunteers. When that pager goes off, they leave whatever they’re doing and show up to help protect our communities. Some of these calls keep them out in the heat for hours at a time, and we definitely don’t want their hard work to go unnoticed.
