Newton County E-911 is always looking for people who are passionate about helping others and serving their community. Dispatching isn’t just answering phones, it’s being there for someone on what could be the worst day of their life.

This job takes patience, teamwork, quick thinking, and a heart for public service. We work closely with law enforcement, fire departments, and EMS to help keep Newton County safe 24/7. Dispatchers work 12 hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

UPDATED SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK: Newest information is in from the NOAA NWS Storm Prediction Center, showing increasing chances for severe storms further south. Late models continue to show an uptick in the severe threat and available energy along and south of Interstate 20. The threat for at least one strong EF-2 tornado continues.

During the month of March, our center handled a total of 3,249 calls.

• 911 Emergency Calls: 1,189
• Administrative Calls: 2,060

- While we couldn’t accurately do our data since our lines went down, this is what we received into our center. Remember, there are a lot of people that call our admin lines to report emergencies… if it is an emergency call 9-1-1.

- The average time it took our dispatchers to answer the 911 calls was 2.5 seconds. I know it may seem like a lifetime on the other end, but we are always ready to help you in need.

- The average time it took our dispatchers to answer the admin calls was 3.5 seconds.

ENHANCED (LEVEL 3/5) EXPANDS: In the noon update, the NOAA NWS Storm Prediction Center expanded the ENHANCED risk to include more of north and east central MS.

ALL HAZARDS are possible this late afternoon into the evening, including a very conditional threat for a STRONG tornado. Damaging wind gust of 70+ MPH and large hail will be the primary threats.
