⚠️ ROAD WORK - S Franklin Street in South Shores ⚠️

Dunn Company will begin repaving S Franklin Street between South Shores Drive and E Grove Road beginning Wednesday, June 24. The start and completion are weather dependent, and the project is anticipated to last approximately two weeks.

This portion of S Franklin Street will have one lane closed in each direction during road construction.

Please slow down and use extreme caution in this area, and consider using a detour route around the work zone. Thank you for your patience while we fix roads!

ADM announces $103 million investment to modernize Decatur operations 💥

Governor JB Pritzker and ADM leadership announced today that ADM will invest over $103 million to modernize its Decatur facilities, creating 50 new full-time jobs while retaining over 1,000 existing full-time jobs.

“We usually think economic development is about bringing new companies to town with great paying jobs, and we love those announcements! But there's another equally important side, and that's not only keeping the companies we have, but helping them grow and expand their job base,” said Decatur Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe. “Archer Daniels Midland is our largest employer in Decatur — a company we want to keep building here. I want to thank Governor Pritzker and his hands-on efforts to help companies like ADM continue to grow in Illinois, proving we are a business-friendly state.”

ADM will modernize critical facilities in its west and east soybean plants and the corn wet mill to replace aging control systems with state-of-the-art technology.

Tire Recycling for Macon County residents - June 25 ♻️

The Macon County Mosquito Abatement District and Macon County Health Department will collect up to 10 rimless passenger tires per household this Thursday, June 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

- Macon Mosquito Abatement: 4170 N Bearsdale Road, Decatur
- Enter from the south on Bearsdale, NOT from Rt. 121
- Bring 2 forms to prove residency (ex: license/ID and utility bill)

Old tires can collect standing water and become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Consider getting rid of them in the correct manner at this event!

The City of Decatur will assist Decatur residents with tree debris cleanup after the recent storms. Tree limbs/debris must be placed at the curb, and a request for pickup must be made before Monday, June 29.

A reminder that right now Decatur garbage customers have unlimited weekly yard waste collection. If you have smaller debris that can fit in a yard waste container, please use that service. If you cannot dispose using the yard waste service:

◾️ Request a pickup from the curb before Monday, June 29, using this online form https://www.decaturil.gov/FormCenter/Public-Works-14/Request-tree-limbdebris-pickup-from-curb-80
◾️ Or call 217.875.4820 by 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 26
◾️ Trees and limbs must be brought to the curb before Monday, June 29
◾️ Trees and limbs must be cut so they are no longer than six feet in length
◾️ We will not collect any other garbage, fence posts, or building debris. If these are on the tree debris pile, it will not be collected
◾️ No paper bags on the debris pile. Landscape bags can be collected by your hauler

Public Works crews will begin pickup on Monday, June 29. Please avoid parking in front of debris piles once pickup begins as this will prevent crews from reaching them with equipment. Due to liability issues, City crews cannot come onto private property. Tree debris must be at the curb for pickup.

Our crews will pick up all debris piles that are reported. We appreciate your cooperation and patience as we work together to clean up from the storm.

If you need to report tree debris on streets or the public right of way, you can call 217-875-4820 or use this form https://www.decaturil.gov/forms.aspx?FID=72 and select the correct problem type.

We are currently working on a plan to assist with tree debris cleanup from private property. Additional details to come.

Non-emergency City of Decatur offices will be CLOSED on Friday, June 19, in observance of the Juneteenth holiday. We will resume normal operations on Monday, June 22.

Decatur Public Transit will also be closed and no services on Friday, June 19. All services will resume on Saturday, June 20.
