After years as our go-to IT expert, last week we had the opportunity to celebrate Don Pliler as he officially begins retirement.

Don has been the behind-the-scenes problem solver for the last 8 years! With his knowledge, dedication, and willingness to help he has made a lasting impact on the Wise County Sheriff’s Office.

We’re incredibly thankful for his years of hard work and we’re glad to celebrate this special milestone with him.

Congratulations, Don, on your retirement! Wishing you nothing but the best in this next chapter!

Today, we remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Memorial Day is a reminder that freedom comes at a cost, and we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

From all of us at the Sheriff’s Office, we wish everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

We remember. 🇺🇸

🌧️ With rainy weather moving through Wise County, we want to remind everyone to slow down and stay alert on the roads.

Wet conditions can reduce visibility and make it harder to stop quickly, so give yourself extra time and space while driving.

🚗 Slow down
👀 Stay focused
⬅️ Leave extra distance between vehicles
⚠️ Avoid distractions

Your safety and the safety of others on the road matters. Stay safe, Wise County!

Our SED unit spent the day at McCarroll Middle School for career day talking with students about law enforcement, our drone program, and the important role our K-9 units have in the field!

K-9 Reign was definitely a crowd favorite 🐾 Students also got the chance to explore inside a patrol vehicle and ask deputies questions about the job!

Thank you to McCarroll Middle School for inviting us out!

This week marks the beginning of National Police Week, a time set aside to honor the men and women in law enforcement who gave their lives protecting others. Behind every name etched into a memorial wall was a person who kissed their family goodbye, put on the badge, and answered the call knowing there were no guarantees they’d make it home.

Police Week is not about praise or recognition. It’s about remembrance.

It’s about remembering the officers who ran toward danger while others ran away. The deputies who answered one more call. The families who carried the weight of a sacrifice that can never truly be repaid. Their absence is still felt by partners, spouses, children, friends, and communities across this country.

Throughout this week, we will pause to honor the fallen, support the survivors, and reflect on the meaning behind the badge. We remember their courage. We remember their service. Most importantly, we remember their names.

To those we have lost: your watch may have ended, but your legacy never will.

The Wise County Sheriff’s Office expresses our heartfelt gratitude to the Wise County District Attorney’s Office for their dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to justice in the case of Athena Strand.

No outcome can ever undo the pain of such a loss, but their work has helped bring accountability and a measure of peace to a grieving family and a shaken community. Thank you to District Attorney James Stainton, and his entire staff, for standing firm, for seeking truth, and for honoring Athena’s memory.
