The staff at our school works with parents as a team to offer children nurturing and loving programs. Most of the staff members including the teachers and the director, are AMI certified teachers. In addition, we send all staff members for appropriate on-site training and to various workshops around the area for continuing education. Importance of a Second Language:
Decatur Montessori School has native Spanish speakers in each classroom that speak Spanish to our children all the time. Learning Spanish as a second language at an early age will help our children become truly proficient in the language. Studies have shown that children with a second language score higher on standardized tests and adapt better to different cultures and environments. The Infant Community is designed to meet the needs of children that are about 8 weeks to about 16 months of age. At this age, children unconsciously observe and absorb everything that their senses pick up from the environment. In Montessori terms, the "Absorbent Mind" is at work. Toddler Community:
The Toddler Community is designed to meet the needs of children that are about 16 months to about three years of age. At toddler age, children work hard to learn the language of their society.
