The Adams County Sheriff’s Office recently completed two successful nights of Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST)training on September 29th, and 30th.
As a bonus to the training, a live alcohol workshop was completed. A live alcohol workshop is the optimal way for officers to train in recognizing the signs of alcohol impairment in OWI investigations.
We had over (30) drinking volunteers assist in the training over the course of the two nights. Thank you to all the community members who donated their time to help our officers make Adams County roadways safer for all residents.
Thank you to Jodi Mawhorr and Lt. Dean Amstutz for donating their services as bartenders both nights. Matron Cami Sanders was also an essential part of the training. Cami coordinated the snacks, drinks and side dishes for the event. Officer Ryan Moore was tasked with preparing the pulled pork and pulled chicken for those in attendance. Thank you, Ryan, Jodi, Dean and Cami, for your efforts.
Our SFST Instructors for the training were Detective James Newbold (Berne PD), Corporal Daniel Heckard (ACSO) Detective Joshua Kimberlin (ACSO) Officer Andrew Wolf (Berne PD) and Marshal Duane Booth (Geneva PD). Thank you for conducting safe, fun, and informative training to the more than (35) officers who attended the training. A special thank you to Detective James Newbold. Detective Newbold has been an SFST instructor since 2001. This training marked his last SFST course after serving Adams County Law Enforcement for over (25) years as an instructor. Your expertise and guidance in the field of SFSTs will be missed sir.
Thank you also to our special guest speaker, Kaylee Heckber. Kaylee’s life nearly ended on March 9th, 2023 as a result of her vehicle being struck by an intoxicated driver in Adams County. After three years, Kaylee was able to finally meet the officers who responded to the crash scene and provided emergency medical care to her on March 9th, 2023. Kaylee spoke to the officers who attended the training, reminding them of the importance of detecting and removing impaired drivers from our roadways. Kaylee’s family was in attendance during the training.
Several staff members volunteered their time to assist in the training as well. Thank you to Madison Smith, Ian Neuenschwander, Korbin Hower, Braden Lee, Dawn Grimm, Detective Ty Hanni, Kelly Miller, Cheyenne Harris, Bliss Nunez, Alex Will, and medics with the Adams County EMS Service. This training would not have been possible without your support.
The next Adams County live alcohol workshop is tentatively scheduled for 2028
