SAFETY CONCERN: Administration has worked closely with the Decatur Police Department to investigate and respond to a neighborhood disturbance around MacArthur High School that occurred earlier today.

We are aware of a false report circulating on social media claiming there was an "active shooter" at MacArthur High School. We want to assure the community that this information is entirely inaccurate. There is not, and was not, an active shooter at MacArthur High School.

The initial incident occurred off-campus as a neighborhood disturbance involving a shooter. At the time of the incident, a football camp and dance competition was taking place on the school grounds. Out of an abundance of caution and in strict adherence to our safety protocols, all camp participants and coaching staff immediately moved inside the school building. They remained safely indoors until law enforcement cleared the area and confirmed it was safe to exit.

We thank the Decatur Police Department, the district’s Safety & Security staff, and our football staff for their quick action to ensure participant safety. We urge the public to rely on official channels for accurate information and to refrain from sharing unverified rumors that cause unnecessary panic in our community.
