Leon Sheffield Magnet School- Decatur, Alabama Leon Sheffield was the former Lakeside High School and then Lakeview Elementary. Mr. Leon Sheffield was a principal in these schools for 19 years.

The magnet school opened in 1972 as Gordon Bibb Elementary and was moved to the Leon Sheffield campus in 2006. The school continues the history of providing excellent educational opportunities to our diverse learners.

What a day at Leon Sheffield! We had so much fun celebrating our favorite teams and getting ready for the River City Rivalry! 🧡🖤❤️🖤

Our Decatur & Austin tattoos were a HUGE hit! 🙌 And thanks to our amazing PTO, every student was treated to popcorn today! 🍿❤️

Next Friday is our first official Popcorn Friday!

Students can choose:

📣 5th Grade Student Council Election Information is coming home today!

We are looking for 5th grade students who are ready to be positive leaders and role models at our school!
Students may run for:
⭐ President
⭐ Vice President
⭐ Secretary
⭐ Treasurer

Students must:
• Have parent/guardian permission
• Maintain a C average
• Not be in ISS or CASE
• Demonstrate good behavior with teachers and peers
• Be willing to attend meetings and school functions, including some after school

📅 IMPORTANT DATES:
📝 Monday, August 24: Student Council forms sent home
✍️ Friday, August 28 by 2:15 PM: Signed permission slips due to Ms. Higginbotham
📌 Wednesday, September 2: Candidates may begin hanging posters
🎤 Tuesday, September 8 by 8:30 AM: Speeches due to Ms. Higginbotham
🗳️ Friday, September 11 at 8:15 AM: LIVE speeches and 5th Grade Student Council Elections in the gym!
🎤 Candidate speeches must be less than 90 seconds and approved by Ms. Higginbotham.
