🚨 DEKALB COUNTY LAUNCHES DEKALBALERT, A NEW EMERGENCY-NOTIFICATION SYSTEM, AND URGES ALL RESIDENTS TO SIGN UP FOR SERVICE 🚨

‼️ DeKalbAlert replaces Code Red. 🚨

DECATUR, GA — DeKalb County Government announces the official launch of DeKalbAlert, an emergency notification system that delivers real-time alerts directly to the mobile phones of enrolled DeKalb County residents.

Owned and operated by the DeKalb Emergency Management Agency (DEMA), the new system is designed to ensure that every resident, business owner, and visitor in the county can receive timely, accurate information during emergencies, severe weather events, public safety incidents, and other critical situations.

“The safety of our residents is my administration’s highest priority,” said DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson. “DeKalbAlert is our direct line to every household in this county during their most vulnerable moments. I am personally asking every resident of DeKalb County to take two minutes today to sign up for this service. Do not wait for an emergency to wish you had registered.”

Two Ways to Enroll

Residents have two options for enrolling in DeKalbAlert, and both are provided at no cost by DEMA.

The fastest way to enroll is by text.

Residents who text DEKALBALERT to 67283 from any mobile phone are immediately signed up to receive the county’s most critical, time-sensitive notifications. These include severe weather warnings such as tornadoes, flash floods, severe thunderstorms, and winter weather, along with evacuation orders, shelter-in-place notifications, AMBER alerts, and major public safety emergencies.

Alerts arrive within minutes of being issued. No app, no account, and no smartphone are required.

Residents who want more control can create an online profile.

Visiting www.dekalbalert.com allows residents to set up a personalized profile that keeps all the same emergency alerts and adds the day-to-day updates that affect how they move and live in DeKalb. This includes traffic notifications, major road closures, county service disruptions such as water and sanitation outages, facility closures, and other non-emergency advisories.

Profile users can add multiple addresses, such as home, work, and a child’s school. Users choose how they want to be reached including text, voice call, email, or any combination, and turn specific alert categories on or off so only the most relevant information comes through. Users can also choose their preferred language for notifications.

“Texting DEKALBALERT to 67283 gets you protected today,” said Dr. CJ Avory, DEMA Director. “Creating a profile lets you fine-tune what shows up on your phone. Both options are valuable. Start with the text and upgrade to a profile when you’re ready. Every enrollment makes our community more resilient, and we urge every resident, business owner, and visitor who spends time in DeKalb County to register today.”

Important Notice for Former Code Red Subscribers

DeKalbAlert is the county’s new official emergency notification system, and it fully replaces Code Red, which is no longer in service. Former Code Red subscribers are not automatically transferred to the new platform and will not receive county emergency notifications until they enroll in DeKalbAlert directly, either by text or online.

This applies to every previous subscriber, no matter how long they were registered.

How to Sign Up
• By text (fastest): Text DEKALBALERT to 67283
• Online (custom profile): Visit www.dekalbalert.com
• Time required: Less than 2 minutes
• Languages: Available in multiple languages
• Smartphone required? No, notifications can be delivered to landlines and via email

This service helps 9-1-1 protect your family by providing more information to first responders. You should sign up too, it is free!
