CONGRATULATIONS SGT BYRD! 🥳

Sgt Kelvonte Byrd went through a 17 week long basic officer training course to further his career as a Fire Investigator, become a stronger public servant, and continue his knowledge of emergency response.
Not everyone can say, or would want to say, they have succeeded in the Fire academy AND the Police Academy!
We are so incredibly proud of him. While he was working hard everyday at the police academy, we were missing his leadership and presence.

Hooray for Sgt Byrd, the best police that never was, because he is returning home to us at Decatur Fire!

2025 Graduates of our Active Living Everyday class still meet once a week to walk the track together.

The program led by FAO Sims and Lt. Sardine have left lasting impacts on our amazing community members. We love to see their dedication to living healthy and happy!
Maybe B-shift personnel will be able to keep up with them while joining the stroll! 😅😮‍💨

Thank you Decatur High School for having us at Career Day! We were able to connect with so many students with blindingly bright futures!
Wherever the path leads you, we look forward to supporting you!
Also, some minimum qualifications for hiring at the fire department include 18 years of age with a GED… just saying, we’ll be here for you 😉.

(Don’t worry, he said they smelled pretty good, for firefighters).

His hard work, wisdom, experience, skills, and unwavering dedication has helped shaped the department in to what it is today.
We are extremely lucky to have you lead the next generation of firefighters.

Just C-shift putting in some reps on the training tower today, nothing new 💪🐐

Did you know Decatur Fire personnel must have a minimum of 210 Company/Facility training hours per year?
The time well spent keeps us UP⬆️ and the city’s ISO rating DOWN⬇️.

City of Decatur has an ISO (insurance services office) rating of ✨2✨!
This is largely determined by our Department’s quality of Fire Protection including training, equipment, water supply, emergency communication, and community risk reduction.
The lower the number, the lower the insurance premiums 😉
We got you Decatur.

Today was Touch-a-Truck in the City of Decatur, and those trucks sure were TOUCHED ‼️
Our Ladder and Rescue received more love than some truck detail days.
