💧 Where Do Mosquitoes Breed?
Mosquitoes lay eggs in standing water, and it only takes a small amount! Common breeding spots include:
- Buckets, flower pots, and plant saucers
- Birdbaths and pet water bowls
- Old tires or toys left outside
- Clogged gutters and drains

Recent reports (2026) show children hospitalized after overdosing while attempting this challenge.
💔 Tragically, similar incidents in recent years have even resulted in death after teens took high doses influenced by social media.
👨‍👩‍👧 What parents & caregivers can do:

Indiana health officials urge Hoosiers to protect themselves from tick bites as the weather warms up and tick activity increases across the state.
Preventing tick bites is the best way to prevent tick-borne diseases. We encourage Hoosiers to take the following precautions:
• Know where ticks are likely to be present (close to the ground in grassy, brushy or wooded areas)
• Treat boots, clothing and outdoor gear with 0.5% permethrin (NOTE: permethrin should NOT be used on bare skin)
• Use EPA-registered insect repellents with active ingredients such as DEET, picaridin, IR3535, oil of lemon eucalyptus (OLE), para-menthane-dio (PMD) or 2-undecanone
• Treat your pets for ticks in consultation with a veterninarian

Even the smallest ticks can cause big problems, having the potential to spread a multitude of diseases to humans. As the weather warms up, you may begin seeing ticks in grassy or wooded areas. Protect yourself by using bug repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants in wooded areas, and checking for ticks after being outside.
