Last night, the Decatur City Council proudly recognized the dedicated men and women of the Decatur Police Department during a special proclamation for National Police Week presented by Mayor McQuiston.

This recognition serves as a reminder that behind every badge is a person who has committed their life to protecting others, serving in difficult moments, and standing watch over our community day and night.

We are grateful for the professionalism, courage, sacrifice, and servant leadership shown daily by our officers, dispatchers, and support staff. Their work often happens quietly and without recognition, but the impact is felt across every part of our community.

Please join us in thanking the members of the Decatur Police Department during National Police Week for their continued service and commitment to keeping Decatur safe. 🇺🇸💙

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week.

Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

National Police Week is a collaborative effort of many organizations dedicated to honoring America’s law enforcement community.
