πŸš’ Dearing Fire Department Deployment – Mutual Aid for Wildfire Response πŸ”₯

Please keep two of our own in your thoughts as they head out to assist with a major wildfire response.

Assistant Chief Ron Barrett and Firefighter Billy Foster will be taking Brush 23 and deploying with the Montgomery County Wildfire Task Force to Marysville, Kansas to assist with an out-of-control wildfire currently impacting the area. They will be joining other Montgomery County fire departments that are traveling to provide mutual aid and support to crews already working the fire.

They will be leaving bright and early tomorrow morning and could potentially remain deployed through Saturday, depending on the needs of the incident and conditions on the ground.

This deployment is a great example of how departments across Kansas come together to support one another when communities are in need. We are proud of Ron and Billy for stepping up to represent the Dearing Fire Department and Montgomery County.

Please keep them and all firefighters working this wildfire in your thoughts and prayers for safe travel, safe operations, and a quick containment of the fire.

Stay safe, gentlemen. We’re proud of you.

Today we take time to Remember Chief Marty Smith of Montgomery County Rural Fire District #1 Dearing Station.

On January 15th, 2023, Chief Smith responded to an auto accident. While returning to the station in a fire department vehicle, he told the firefighter that he was riding with, I must have pulled a muscle my arm hurts. Chief Smith didn't seek medical attention. Not realizing his body was presenting signs of a heart attack, he went home. He was found dead in his home the next morning.

Chief Smith You are not forgotten, and we thank you for your many years of dedicated service.

Thank you for doing your part in helping yourself and others stay safe today! And have a blessed day!
