CHAIRMAN BEGGS RELEASES STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF VICE CHAIR MR. SAMMIE WILSON
Thomson, GA, September 2, 2026. On behalf of the McDuffie County Board of Commissioners, I would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of Commissioner Sammie Wilson who passed away a short while ago.
Commissioner Wilson has faithfully served District 1 on the McDuffie County Board of Commissioners for over 30 years. While in office, Commissioner Wilson served on the Thomson-McDuffie Water and Sewer Commission, the Thomson-McDuffie Land Bank Authority, the Human Relations policy committee, and various other city and county leadership efforts, including Vice-Chairman of the Board of Commissioners.
His years of service to McDuffie County will be remembered for their integrity, their self-sacrifice, and the unyielding vision to build a better community for every McDuffie Countian. For me personally, he was an invaluable mentor and guide through my first years in office. In my first two years in office, Sammie was a trustworthy friend, confidant, and ally. His care and concern for the people he represented was obvious and his unwavering commitment to the staff of McDuffie County was evident.
In addition to his long-time service locally, Commissioner Wilson will be remembered for a life of service to his country, his church, various civic organizations, and his lengthy career at our
