🔥 The busy streak continues for your Dearing Firefighters! 🚒

On September 3rd, 2026, at approximately 11:03 a.m., Dearing Tanker 27 and Engine 25 were dispatched to assist Tyro Rural Fire Dept with a vehicle and grass fire northwest of Tyro, Kansas.

Tanker 27 arrived on scene and assisted Tyro firefighters with bringing the fire under control.

Unfortunately, while responding to the call, Engine 25 experienced some mechanical problems and had to cancel its response. But as luck would have it, we have a couple of dedicated firefighters who know “a thing or two, because they’ve seen a thing or two!” 🔧🚒

After the fire was under control, Firefighters Richard Wells and Corey Stair arrived and quickly went to work on Engine 25. Thanks to their knowledge and hard work, they were able to get the engine back up and running and ready for the next job! 💪

Great work by everyone involved, and a special thank you to Richard and Corey for taking the time to get Engine 25 back in service. Having firefighters who bring skills to the department both on and off the fireground is a huge asset!

If you’re going to keep our firefighters—and all of our neighboring departments—this busy, could you at least give us a little break from this heat? 🥵

🔥 MUTUAL AID GRASS FIRE — WANN, OK 🔥

On August 31st, 2026, at approximately 11:04 a.m., Dearing Fire Department Brush 23 and Tanker 27 were dispatched to assist the Wann, Oklahoma Fire Department with an out-of-control grass fire.

Due to the size and conditions of the fire, multiple departments and agencies responded to assist, including South Coffeyville Fire Department, Copan Fire Department, Nowata EMS, Bartlett Fire Department, Edna Fire Department, Tyro Rural Fire Dept and Coffeyville Resources Fire Department, Coffeyville Fire Department.

Incidents like this are a great example of why mutual aid is so important, especially when battling fast-moving grass fires. It takes teamwork, communication, and resources from multiple departments to bring these incidents under control and protect lives and property.

We appreciate all of the firefighters and emergency personnel who responded and worked together today. No matter which side of the state line the call comes from, we are always proud to help our neighboring departments when they need us. 🚒🔥

🔥 BUSY SATURDAY FOR YOUR DEARING FIREFIGHTERS! 🔥
August 29, 2026

It was a busy day for your Dearing Fire Department, with our firefighters responding to two separate structure and vehicle fires—one in Kansas and another across the state line in Oklahoma.

🚒 12:18 PM – Structure & Vehicle Fire Northeast of Dearing

At approximately 12:18 PM, Dearing Engine 25, Truck 21, Tankers 27 and 24, along with Coffeyville Fire Department Engine 2, and Coffeyville Regional Medical Center EMS, were dispatched to a reported structure and vehicle fire approximately four miles northeast of Dearing.

Due to the size and nature of the fire, mutual aid was requested from Liberty Fire Department, South Coffeyville Fire Department, and Tyro Rural Fire Dept.

Coffeyville Engine 2 arrived on scene and immediately began attacking the fire. When Dearing Engine 25 arrived, crews found the fire had also spread to surrounding grass and hay bales, requiring additional resources.

Coffeyville Resources Fire Department, Independence Rural Fire Department, and Independence Kansas Fire/EMS Department responded to assist with additional manpower, apparatus, and water.

Thanks to the hard work and coordination of everyone on scene, crews were able to gain control of the fire and eventually bring it under control and extinguish it.

🚨 5:31 PM – Mutual Aid to Wann, Oklahoma

There wasn’t much downtime before the tones dropped again.

At approximately 5:31 PM, Dearing Engine 25 and Tankers 24 and 27 responded across the state line to assist the Wann, Oklahoma Fire Department with another vehicle and structure fire.

Engine 25 arrived on scene and joined firefighters from Wann Fire Department and South Coffeyville Fire Department in extinguishing the structure and vehicle fire.

Days like today are a reminder of just how important mutual aid is in the fire service. When a department needs help, neighboring departments answer the call—regardless of city limits, county lines, or even state lines.

A huge THANK YOU to every firefighter and department that responded and worked alongside us today. We appreciate the teamwork, dedication, and willingness to help one another when it’s needed most.

🚨 VEHICLE OVER BRIDGE — ONION CREEK RESCUE 🚒

On August 27th, 2026, at approximately 10:21 p.m., Dearing Truck 21, Engine 25, and Brush 23, along with Coffeyville Fire Department Engine 2, Coffeyville Regional Medical Center EMS, and the Montgomery County S.O. KS, were dispatched to an injury motor vehicle accident at the Onion Creek bridge just south of the Dearing city limits.

Coffeyville Police 911 Dispatch advised responding crews that a vehicle had gone over the bridge railing and crashed into Onion Creek.

Dearing Truck 21 arrived and located significant damage to the railing on the west side of the bridge. Firefighters immediately began calling out and were able to make verbal contact with the driver, who was still inside the vehicle approximately 20–25 feet below the bridge on the north side of Onion Creek.

Firefighters made their way down the steep embankment and contacted the sole occupant of the vehicle. Thankfully, the driver was alert, able to communicate with rescuers, and did not appear to have suffered serious injuries.

Additional firefighters from Dearing Engine 25 and Coffeyville Engine 2, along with Coffeyville EMS, made their way down to the vehicle. Working together, crews safely removed the driver from the crash site, brought them up the steep embankment, and transferred them to the waiting ambulance.

After looking at the crash site, there were two major saving graces that very likely prevented this accident from having a much different outcome.

First, instead of plunging the entire 20–25 feet to the bottom of the creek bed, the vehicle landed on a large pile of trees and debris that had accumulated from recent heavy rains. The debris helped shorten the initial fall to approximately 10–15 feet before the vehicle rolled and ultimately came to rest upright.

Second, Onion Creek was extremely low. While the location and steep terrain made this a challenging rescue, the low water level prevented crews from also having to conduct a difficult water rescue.

Looking at where this vehicle came to rest, we are extremely thankful this incident did not end in tragedy.

A big THANK YOU to all of the firefighters, EMS personnel, law enforcement officers, and dispatchers who worked together to bring this rescue to a safe conclusion.

Most importantly, we wish the driver a speedy recovery and are thankful they were not seriously injured.

🔥 LATE-NIGHT GARAGE FIRE — TEAMWORK IN ACTION 🚒

On August 26, 2026, at approximately 11:29 p.m., Dearing Engine 25, Tanker 27, and Tanker 24, were dispatched along with the Coffeyville Fire Department Coffeyville Regional Medical Center EMS and Tyro Rural Fire Dept to a reported vehicle/garage fire approximately three miles southeast of Dearing.

Coffeyville Engine 2 arrived first and immediately began an aggressive interior attack on the garage fire. When Engine 25 arrived, Dearing firefighters assisted Coffeyville crews with fire suppression while also working to extinguish the vehicle involved in the fire.

South Coffeyville Fire Department responded with a tanker and supplied Engines 2 and 25 with water. A big thank you also goes to Tyro Rural Fire Department for keeping the tankers on scene supplied and full, allowing crews to maintain a steady water supply throughout the incident.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported. Preliminary investigation indicates the fire originated with the vehicle and spread into the garage.

🚒 But the work doesn’t end when the fire is out.

One part of the job we don’t show very often is what happens after we get back to the station.

After hours of working a fire, we don’t simply back the trucks into the station and head home or crawl back into bed. The hose lines used at the fire have to be washed and hung to dry. Fresh, dry hose is loaded back onto the engine. SCBA air packs and masks are cleaned and inspected. Used or empty air bottles are replaced, equipment is returned to service, and sometimes the trucks themselves need a bath before they’re put away.

At that point, the shower and bed are sounding pretty good—especially knowing many of our volunteers still have to get up and head to their full-time jobs in just a few hours.

But there’s a reason we do it.

The next call doesn’t care how tired we are. We ALWAYS have to be ready for the next job.

🚒 DFD Monthly Training 🚒

Tonight, members of the Dearing Fire Department came together for our monthly training, focusing on Incident Command and teamwork.

A big thank you to Lt. Maritt for taking the time to put together and lead tonight’s training! The hands-on exercises gave everyone an opportunity to work on communication, problem-solving, leadership, and working together toward a common goal.

It may look like we were just playing with blocks 🧱😂, but exercises like these help reinforce skills that are critical when things get hectic on an emergency scene.

Train together. Work together. Serve together. 🚒💪

On August 5th 2026, at approximately 11:23am Dearing Brush 23 and Tanker 27 responded to assist Tyro Rural Fire Dept with a grass/hay bale fire northeast of Tyro. Units were able to work together to get the fire under control relatively quick. Thankful that it wasn’t any worse than what it was. Always hate it when hay catches fire that the farmers use to feed and sell!

☀️🔥 EXTREME HEAT WARNING 🔥☀️

Mother Nature has officially set the thermostat to “surface of the sun.” 🥵

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for today. If you step outside and immediately question all of your life choices… that’s normal. Dangerous heat is expected through this evening, with little relief overnight. (National Weather Service⁠)

🌡️ Here are a few reminders to help you beat the heat:

💧 Drink plenty of water—even if you don’t feel thirsty.

🧢 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.

🏠 Stay in air conditioning whenever possible.

🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle—not even for a minute.

👵 Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and anyone who may not have adequate cooling.

🚒 If you have to work outside, take frequent breaks in the shade and know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Remember…

🥚 If your eggs cook on the sidewalk…

🥓 Your bacon cooks on the hood of your truck…

🔥 And your flip-flops stick to the driveway…

…it’s probably a good day to let someone else mow the yard. 😅
