The part Dearborn Police & Fire unions don't want you to know.
The Dearborn City Charter is currently in violation of Michigan State law in terms of minimum staffing requirements. There is no such thing as "grandfathered in". The State Attorney General has stated that after their review the new proposed charter that they "can not unsee" this violation in the current charter. If the proposed charter does not pass, the City with likely receive a statement from the Attorney General that the City is in violation of State law and the minimum staffing provision will have to be removed. Also, at any time the City could be sued by any individual and a court would order the minimum staffing provision removed. The unions who represent those that are entrusted with upholding the law want you and the city to violate the law in the name of politics.
