A few members of the Deadwood Fire and Rescue were on standby for burning of the Letters tonight at the homecoming game. This is a long standing tradition of burning the letters. Years ago they use to wrap the letters with rags and burned them. Due to safety concerns propane has been used for many years. Also Sparky the Fire Dog came out to over see and to help cheer on the Diggers.

On Saturday September 19th, Deadwood Fire & Rescue was paged to 385 near mile marker 121 just south of Deadwood for a vehicle rollover with possible entrapment.

Upon arrival it was determined that a 2025 Mercedes Benz RV had overturned on a trail approximately 300 yards off of the highway, and bystanders were able to assist the patients in exiting the vehicle.

Deadwood Rescue 3 and Brush 6 assisted with patient care, and traffic control while on scene. In addition they assisted towing crews with removal.

One patient was transported to Lead-Deadwood Monument Hospital for further treatment of injuries.

This afternoon, September 16th, Deadwood Fire & Rescue was paged to Hwy 14A and Armory St. for a two vehicle injury accident at around 4:30.

Deadwood Truck 4 assisted with patient care, and traffic control while on scene.

One patient was transported to Lead-Deadwood Monument Hospital for further treatment of injuries, and one patient refused treatment.

With numerous events going on in our area, honoring 911 today one of our own Deadwood Firefighters, Brandon Wallin took the challenge and participated in the stair challenge with other firefighters. This would’ve been the same amount of stairs as the firefighters at the twin towers would’ve gone up had they made it to the very top of the World Trade Center. The stair challenge is in memory of those that went before us. May we never forget.

This evening in Deadwood was the community picnic which also at this time honored the anniversary of 9/11. This year members of the Deadwood Fire Dept were on hand making hamburgers and hotdog.  In 2011 the Deadwood Jam was canceled due to fires in the area people were offered to refund their tickets. One of the businesses in town offered to set up a fund that helped a restaurant in New York that helped feed firefighters and emergency workers. At Ground Zero to have food courtesy of the refunded money on the Deadwood Jam tickets. A picture was given tonight with New York firefighters having a meal during that time. We are so grateful and blessed to have people in Deadwood able to help out others in a time of need.
