This week, Mayor Harris had the privilege of meeting Jitka Neužilová, Mayor of a small village called Konojedy in the Czech Republic.

While visiting our area, she wanted to meet our Mayor.

Some history was added today to the walls of the former G.W. Carver High School, which now houses the Beauregard Alternative Program and Title 1.
Former students have been gathering up history — scanning old photos and yearbooks — in order to create a wall exhibit at the school.
Today, they gathered, along with some Beauregard Parish school officials, to see those results … and to reminisce.

Janet Vincent, Keep DeRidder Beautiful Director, is in New Orleans this week, representing the City of DeRidder at the Keep America Beautiful National Summit. Keep DeRidder Beautiful is an affiliate of Keep Louisiana Beautiful. This event brings a record attendance of 500 leaders against litter from across the U.S. to discuss best practices and innovative strategies for litter reduction, beautification, and community stewardship. Among the leaders attending are 83 individuals representing Louisiana affiliates and partners, like the City of DeRidder.

Mayor Harris rucked up and marched “out of the darkness and into the light” this morning, with Fort Polk soldiers, Post Command Sergeant Major Oracio Peña Jr., and Anacoco High School student and future University of New Orleans track and field/cross country athlete Sophia Acevedo.

This special ruck march, hosted by Fort Polk BOSS (Better Opportunities For Single Soldiers), was aimed at raising awareness about su***de prevention.

NOTICE: Going forward, and due to less practice space available for use, the practice fields at Bryant Park, North Park, and Harmon Park must be reserved with the City of DeRidder prior to use. This is in an effort to accommodate as many local recreational teams as possible. To reserve, call DeRidder City Hall, 337-462-8907. (The availability of fields this year is from March 1 to July 15.)
