Earlier today, crews responded to a huge structure fire at Hawkeye Auto Salvage on the edge of De Soto. 🔥

Our very own Assistant Fire Chief Murray and Firefighter Kilker were the first firefighters on scene. We want to give a huge shoutout and special appreciation to both of them for their quick response and bravery under very tough conditions to help mitigate the spread. 👨‍🚒

Fighting a fire of this size takes a massive team effort, and we want to also extend our sincere gratitude to all the neighboring fire departments, mutual aid partners, and emergency personnel who rushed in to back up our city. 🚒🚑🚓💨

Incidents like this remind us how lucky we are to have such dedicated first responders—and such incredible resident volunteers. We are strong because of our community and the surrounding agencies who always have our back.

Thank you ALL for your hard work and dedication to keeping our community safe today. Please keep one of our great local businesses, Hawkeye Auto Salvage in your thoughts and prayers.

Rockin’ the red white and blue always. 🇺🇸 Heads up: “Professional” fireworks shows = people who didn’t buy theirs from a tent next to the grocery store. We’re big fans of patriotism. We’re not big fans of explaining to the medics why you’re now a “lefty.” 👍🏻 Happy 2-5-0, America! Let’s celebrate in a way that ensures you’re still counting to ten tomorrow. 🎆

🧨REMINDER🧨
It's almost the 4th of July! 🇺🇸 With the fireworks tents up and running, we wanted to remind everyone of our city’s rules about consumer fireworks.

Using fireworks outside the below permitted times or in prohibited areas could result in fines and other penalties. Any fireworks set off on July 3rd-4th on private property must have permission from the property owner.

Thank you for your cooperation toward celebrating responsibly, being considerate of your neighbors and pets, and helping keep De Soto safe! 🎇

We had a blast at the De Soto Public Library's Summer Reading Kickoff Touch a Truck event! The De Soto Fire Department really saved the day by bringing out the hose to keep everyone cool, (we're still drying off from that. 😅) & the snow cone treats tasted great during the high temps as well. 🍧 Always great to see the community & local businesses come together for such a fun evening! 🚓🚒📚

Please be aware of an increase of children on city streets, sidewalks, and in neighborhoods as summer begins. Motorists also need to be aware of the increase of children on electric scooters, electric bikes, and other electronic toy devices that transport children.

With school out for the summer and the neighborhoods busier all hours of the day, please keep these safety tips in mind while riding/operating.
