🚨 OFFICIAL SCAM ALERT 🚨
The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a bond payment scam currently being reported.
Individuals are contacting family members and falsely claiming to work with or on behalf of the Sheriff’s Office. The caller may claim that your family member is in jail and tell you that you can pay a bond directly through them. They may also claim that once payment is made, your family member will be released and placed on an ankle monitor.
THIS IS A SCAM.
⚠️ The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER call family members and request payment for an inmate’s bond over the phone.
If you receive a suspicious call:
• DO NOT send money.
• DO NOT provide banking, credit card, or personal information.
• DO NOT follow payment instructions provided by the caller.
• Hang up and contact the Sheriff’s Office directly to verify the information.
Scammers may use official-sounding language or falsely claim they are working with law enforcement in an attempt to appear legitimate.
Please share this information with your family, friends, and community members—especially those who may be vulnerable to these types of scams.
When in doubt, hang up and call the Sheriff’s Office directly.
