Introducing Molly Rehil, HOV's new Executive Director! Take a moment to say hello, and enjoy our interview with this dynamic community member!
Welcome Molly!
Q: How does this specific role align with your personal values, and how will you communicate our organization’s mission to our community?
A: Serving others has always been at the heart of both my personal and professional life. As a mother of three and someone who has spent nearly a decade in the nonprofit sector, I have seen how strong communities can change lives. After moving from Michigan to Florida, I experienced firsthand the importance of connection and community support. Heart of Volusia's mission aligns closely with my belief that when organizations, community leaders, and residents work together, we can improve health outcomes, promote heart health and wellness, and build a stronger, healthier Volusia & Flagler County for everyone.
Q: Non-profits often operate with limited resources. Can you share an example of how you've successfully maximized impact with a tight budget or limited staff?
A: Throughout my nonprofit career, I have often worked with limited resources and competing priorities. I learned to maximize impact by building partnerships, streamlining processes, and focusing on collaboration. Some of the most meaningful outcomes happen not because of abundant resources, but because people come together with a shared purpose.
Q: In the non-profit sector, priorities can shift rapidly based on funding or community needs. Can you describe a time you had to pivot your strategy and how you managed that change?
A: The nonprofit sector is constantly evolving. Whether responding to changing community needs or shifting priorities, I have learned to stay flexible, communicate clearly, and focus on solutions. I view change as an opportunity to learn, grow, and better serve those who depend on our work.
Q: This role requires building relationships with donors, volunteers, and the community. What strategies do you use to cultivate and maintain long-term engagement?
A: I believe strong relationships are built through trust, authenticity, and consistency. My approach is to listen first, communicate openly, and create meaningful opportunities for people to stay connected to our mission. When people feel valued and informed, they become long term partners in the work we do.
Q: How do you define and measure success in this role, ensuring our programs are truly moving the needle on our core objectives?
A: Success is about more than numbers. It’s about creating meaningful improvements in the health and well being of our community. I look at participation, engagement, partnerships, and feedback, while also asking whether our work is increasing awareness, promoting healthier lifestyles, and helping connect people with valuable resources. If we are improving lives and strengthening our community through education, collaboration, and outreach, then we're succeeding.
