On May 5, 2026, at Rona Hills Park in Fairborn, two Eagle Scouts received the SUVCW Eagle Scout Award. The Court of Honor was held at a park pavilion in light rain, but that didn't dampen the spirits of the Scouts and family gathered for this important event. Eagle Scouts Kristen Hildebrecht and Ethan Johnston received the award from Sherman Camp Eagle Scout Coordinator, John Grismer. Dean and Teague McMaster were also awarded the certificate, but were unable to be present. Troop 72, which conducted the event, has been chartered by the Fairborn First Presbyterian Church since 1957. The Troop has 18 Scouts ranging from ages 11 to 17, and meet every Tuesday night at 7pm. Please join the members of Sherman Camp in congratulating these young adults on attaining the highest award in Scouting!

-- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE --

The 24th Annual Lincoln Dinner, held in Southwest Ohio, by members of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, was held February 12, 2026, at the Presidential Banquet Center, in Kettering, Ohio.
Members of Sherman Camp No. 93, Lytle Camp No. 92, Parrott Camp No. 33, and Enderlin Camp No. 73 were in attendance this year, along with members of the Lincoln Society of Dayton, and the Sr. Anthony O’Connell Auxiliary, including its president, Jenna Osborn. Special guests included Dept. of Ohio Commander David Rish, PDC John Huffman, Jr., and National SUVCW Secretary James Crane.

Dr. Frederick Leickly of Columbus, IN, was the night’s speaker. He spoke on his ancestor’s memoirs entitled, “Recollections of the Civil War: The life of a soldier in the Ohio 2nd Volunteer Cavalry - 1861-1865”. Dr. Leickly has also been a Civil War re-enactor with the Indiana 49th Volunteer Infantry, and a member of the SUVCW for almost 25 years. He is presently Camp Commander of John B. Anderson Camp No. 223 in Columbus, IN, and the Dept of Indiana Junior Vice Commander.

Of special note was the music provided by the Mabarak Family Trio, with Stephen, Lydia, and Xavier, who entertained the attendees with Civil War period music and anthems, many of which were from a compilation of songs from the “Grand Army War Songs”, published in 1886.
