DAYTON ARTIST RECEIVES 1ST PLACE IN HOOSIER ART SALON

The Hoosier Art Salon in Indianapolis, Indiana invited 26 of its members to exhibit in its 4th Annual Hoosier Art Salon's Allen Whitehill Clowes Collaborative Invitational Art exhibition which was held at the Herron School of Art and Design at Indiana University, Indianapolis, IN. To be a member of the Hoosier Art Salon, an artist must have been born in Indiana, attended school in Indiana or lived in Indiana for at least one year.
The first-place winner in the 2026 invitational exhibit was Dayton artist Willis Bing Davis who attended college in Indiana at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. He was a professor of art and director of Black Studies at DePauw University 1970-76 and lived in Greencastle during that period. While Dayton and the State of Ohio claim Davis a Buckeye, the State of Indiana considers him a Hoosier as result of his years in Indiana as a student, teacher, and resident.
Mr. Davis has participated in several Hoosier Salon exhibits over the years. Hoosier Art Salon’s exhibits are known across the country for the outstanding landscapes, still life and figurative works. Mr. Davis’s first-place 4th Annual Allen Whitehill Clowes Collaborative exhibition was for his most recent work titled Colin Kaepernick/George Floyd Knee Cushion #16--a mixed media piece made of clay, found objects and an old football.
