Exploring Future Collaboration with UNR's Mackay School of Mines

Friends of Sutro Tunnel recently met with Dr. Paul White of the Mackay School of Earth Sciences & Engineering at the Sutro Site to discuss potential collaborative opportunities that would advance education, research, and historic preservation efforts at the Sutro Tunnel site.

The meeting focused on developing partnerships that could provide hands-on learning experiences for students and faculty through field studies, archaeological research, mining history interpretation, engineering applications, and internship opportunities. Both organizations share a commitment to preserving Nevada's rich mining heritage while creating meaningful educational experiences for future generations.

As a next step, interested faculty members will be invited to tour the Sutro Tunnel site, followed by a larger stakeholder meeting at the Mackay School to identify future projects and formalize collaborative partnerships.

This exciting opportunity has the potential to connect academic research with one of Nevada's most significant historic landmarks.
