AmeriCorps History
The Mentoring Collaborative of Montgomery County began hosting an operational AmeriCorps Program in 2011 to help partner agencies increase capacity and expand mentoring services to more youth. Each year, MCMC AmeriCorps members serve 600 K-12 youth and mobilize more than 100 volunteers to engage in mentoring and service throughout Montgomery County.
MCMC AmeriCorps members are part of a larger, national service effort. Established in 1994 through the Corporation for National and Community Service in Washington, D.C., AmeriCorps State and National Programs engage more than 75,000 men and women in intensive service each year at more than 15,000 locations including nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across the country.
