Jerry Delaney is the Grand Marshal of the Bellevue-Dayton Memorial Day Parade. Jerry is a 1966 graduate of Bellevue High School. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1969. He received infantry training at Ft. Gordon, Ft. Jackson, Ft. McClellan, and Ft. Benning. Upon earning the rank of sergeant, he was sent to South Vietnam. While searching for enemy combats, he was wounded in action. He was airlifted to Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C. where he recovered for eight months.
Sgt. Delaney was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Purple Heart, Bronze Star for Valor, Air Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge. He was medically retired from the military.
The City of Bellevue thanks Mr. Delaney for his service and is honored to have him as this year's grand marshal.
