An earlier post honored the memory of Bob Mousaian. Here is more about this creative and kind person who helped make our community a special corner of the world. Bob was among the early residents of the 22 Brown, aka as the Salvador Dali Hotel. In addition to the Moussain Oriental Rug Shop, now the home at 315 E. 6th, Bob also renovated 308 E. Sixth after it had fallen into disrepair. Along with Tim Patterson, Bob opened the Nite Owl, now Blind Bob's on E. 5th. This hip coffee house was hip before coffee became hip and served the best peanut butter milk shakes on the planet. Later the Nite Owl hosted some of the best music in the city and became the home of the band Giant who made "Street Life" the closing anthem of weekend nights on Fifth Street. With the passing of Phil Robertson and Bob, Oregon has lost two of its early urban pioneers and generous souls.

🛒 A building that used to move freight for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad now moves 370,000 people through its doors every year.

A 1911 railroad warehouse was pulled back from the edge of demolition and turned into Dayton's most vibrant weekly gathering place.

The 2nd Street Market fills that block-long historic building with more than 50 local vendors: farmers, bakers, artisan cheesemakers, honey producers, flower growers, and a stretch of small restaurants serving everything from French crepes to Mexican street food. Walk in hungry and you'll have a hard time deciding where to start.

It's run by Five Rivers MetroParks, which is its own kind of Dayton thing.

A parks system operating one of the best public markets in Ohio. It just works.
