04/28/2026

Please remind all EMS personnel, Quarterly Triage Day (QTD) will be 2000 hours April 29, 2026, through 2000 hours April 30, 2026. Our apologies for the error on the video’s title slide that says the 28th and 29th. QTD starts at 8 PM on Wednesday, April 29th.

This QTD will focus on the fundamentals of MCI tools for disaster preparedness. NO TREATMENT TAGS WILL BE USED FOR THIS QTD.

EMS personnel must know and utilize MCI tools, including Triage Ribbons and MCI Radio Talk Groups. To help everyone involved make the most of QTDs, Dayton MMRS has created four short videos (two for EDs and hospitals, two for EMS). The two videos take only 15 minutes. The PowerPoints used in those videos are also posted, should you prefer to deliver the training live, as well as a PDF of the slides for a handout. Those materials for EMS can be found at Dayton MMRS website under “Training Opportunities” or directly here and on the GMVEMSC website.

Please have your personnel review these trainings to ensure that the QTD can be used to effectively prepare all EMS staff in the event of a real MCI.

EMS:
• Make BRIEF, MCI-style reports to the hospital over MCI Radio Talk Groups on every patient during ENTIRE 24 HOURS (2000 hours April 29 – 2000 hours April 30).
o e.g., “Wayne Hospital, this is Greenville Medic 591 enroute with one Yellow, possible fractured ankle.”
o EMS must clearly identify the ED they are calling on MCI Radios and make sure the correct hospital responds before giving the report.
o Ensure you know which channel to use to access the MCI Talk Group.
o If an ED has trouble responding over the MCI radio, please offer to help ED staff upon your arrival. Disaster preparedness is collaborative!
• Place an appropriate Triage Ribbon (SALT Triage) on EVERY patient for the entire 24 hours.
o DO NOT use Disaster Tags for the drill.

Attached are Job Aids for EMS personnel to review before and refer to during the QTD. Please have your crews utilize these resources.

Quarterly Triage Day allows us to collectively prepare ourselves, our teams, and partner agencies for real-world incidents – your participation in this practice is imperative!
