Please join us for a FREE training / guest speaker event to all! The MVCPA has organized a presentation with Retired Chief Scott Hughes for Patrol Tactics! Please see the below flyer and RSVP ASAP! Located at UD Arena, 1801 S Edwin C Moses Blvd, Dayton.

Chief Scott Hughes has been an esteemed member of the law enforcement community since 1997. Throughout his career, he has held several leadership positions in numerous departments and has been instrumental in driving cultural transformations through effective leadership, personnel management, and accountability.

Chief Hughes has been a distinguished instructor with the Ohio Peace Officer's Training Commission for over two decades. He collaborates with attorneys to teach use of force, tactics, and case law. Additionally, he is a respected contributing writer and instructor for Calibre Press on various topics, including leadership, officer safety, and the "Legally Justified, But Was It Avoidable" training course.

Chief Hughes is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, session 291 and possesses a Graduate Certificate from the University of Virginia in Criminal Justice Education. Chief Hughes holds a bachelor's degree in Organizational Leadership from the University of Charleston and is a member of the Association of Force Investigators. He has earned the prestigious Certified Law Enforcement Executive (CLEE) designation, a testament to his vast knowledge and expertise in law enforcement.

Chief Hughes chairs the Professional Services Committee for the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police and is also a member of the Education Committee. He is a subject matter expert on various legal issues, such as use of force, police procedures, and police policy. In addition, he serves as a Law Enforcement Client Advisor with Fireproofed Leadership, where he works with clients on various law enforcement leadership and culture change initiatives, coaching, audits, and more.

Currently, Chief Hughes holds the position of Chief of Police in one of Ohio's fastest-growing suburbs, where he continues to serve with distinction and dedication. In 2025, Scott founded Crosden Consulting; a public safety consulting firm that specializes in expert witness services.

We extend our gratitude to all who participated in our training session today with the esteemed Ret. Det. Doyle Burke. This class marked a significant success and represented our second highly attended training course of the year. If your agency is not yet involved with the MVCPA, we invite you to consider joining in 2026. Our organization will be hosting round table discussions, training sessions, and events tailored to various areas of law enforcement. An agency membership fee of $25 provides unlimited access to all events for your officers throughout the year.

Fourth Street, Franklin, 45005, in anticipation of a large turnout for our guest speaker. The event starts on 4/9 at 9:45am. He later served as Chief Investigator for the Warren County Coroner’s Office, overseeing over 1,000 death investigations annually, and currently works in the Cold Case Unit, continuing his commitment to solving the most challenging cases.

A certified instructor for the State of Ohio and a longtime educator in crime scene and death investigation, Mr. Burke has trained law enforcement professionals for more than 30 years. He is also the author of the acclaimed true crime book Death as a Living, recognized as one of Newsweek’s favorite new releases of 2021, and has been featured on numerous national television programs. The turnout for our first hosted training service was excellent, and we'd like to thank Jake Day of Complete Responder for his support. We saw a significant increase in attendance from various agencies compared to previous meetings. On April 9th, Franklin PD will host our upcoming training and guest speaker event, Death Investigations, led by expert Doyle Burke. Stay tuned for the announcement with full details.

FREE GUEST SPEAKER TRAINING ANNOUNCEMENT: FEBRUARY 12, 2026

The Miami Valley Crime Prevention Association will be hosting a free in-house training / guest speaker event for all MVCPA members, as well as any visiting agencies, on February 12th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

The regular MVCPA meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. Please feel free to attend if you are a visiting agency. If you are attending the training only, please arrive at 9:45 a.m. for opening statements from the MVCPA.

This training will be presented by Jake Day, owner of The Complete Responder, a company dedicated to teaching and promoting mental health well-being for law enforcement personnel. This two-hour course is an abbreviated version of Jake’s full eight-hour workshop offered through his company.

All agencies are encouraged to bring as many officers as they would like. Administrators are also welcome to attend to determine whether Jake’s services may be beneficial for their own agency.

Jake Day has an extensive law enforceme career / expirence as an Officer. Officers who have previously attended this training have described it as some of the most informative and impactful instruction available for managing stress and supporting long-term health and well-being throughout a law enforcement career.

This training is beneficial for officers and dispatchers at all stages of their careers, from those just starting out to seasoned veterans.

MVCPA Meeting Recap – December 11, 2025

Today’s meeting was full of great momentum as we officially voted in the 2026 Board of Directors! These dedicated leaders will be sworn in at our February meeting:

We also had the honor of recognizing Ofc. Christine Hamilton (Dayton Police Department) with a Gratitude Award for her years of service on the board, and she was presented with an Honorary Membership — thank you for your commitment, Christine! 🙌

The President of the Miami Valley Crime Stoppers shared for a few minutes about their organization and invited all members to attend their meetings as well. He shared about someofnthe great resources and collaboration they have to offer.
