Yesterday, we cleaned along Burt Creek Rd. — with the sharp drop off the road's shoulder, you can't easily spot the trash from your car. But WOW. We collected a lot of trash with some interesting finds from a broken shovel to a car's sunshade.

Since our Transfer Station (the dump) is on Burt Creek, we guess trash falls out when people are on their way to drop it off. PLEASE remind your friends, family, and neighbors to secure your trash/recyclables when taking it to the dump.

Yesterday, we partnered with our friends and neighbors, Keep Forsyth County Beautiful, and cleaned across county lines! We picked up trash along State Route 9 E. (Lumkpin Campground Rd. S. for us) and intersecting roads along the way, while KFCB did the same on their end (Hopewell Rd. for Forsyth).

We got dirty, literally digging up trash from the mud at one point, and Dianne Leonhardt found some perfectly good discarded shades 😎 Help us keep our community clean by picking up trash along roads near your home. The library will be hosting a Seed Swap event, next week, from 4-6 pm.
Bring seeds you’d like to share, or simply come and take some to try in your own garden. Members of the Georgia Mountain Master Gardeners will be on hand to offer expert guidance, answer your gardening questions, and share helpful tips for planting and growing in our region.

A couple of weeks back, we presented to Riverview Elementary School's 5th-grade class. We talked about the microscopic world and why it matters to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Thanks for having us, Riverview!

For America's 250th anniversary, let's treat every day like it's Earth Day! We can all make small, mindful changes. And when we do this together as a community, it has a BIG impact!

Reduce:
• Mindful consumption — choosing products with easy-to-recycle or biodegradable packaging
• Buying in bulk to save money and reduce packaging waste
• Meal planning to reduce food waste

Reuse
• Reusable products — water bottles, shopping bags, and reusable straws (plant-based, stainless steel, reinforced glass, etc.)
• Replace plastic wrap/small bags with a beeswax wrap or silicone food covers
• Reuse old containers — egg cartons are perfect to start seedlings, and repurposing items like plastic tubs, yogurt cups, and glass jars can be used for storage, planters, or crafts!

It's photo-dump time! KDCB had six volunteers present about the science + reduce/reuse/recycle to the entire 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades at Kilough Elementary last month. Thanks for having us, Kilough!

We are SO blessed that our County Commissioners made the Greatest American Cleanup Proclamation for Dawson County 👏👏👏 KDCB took the pledge to:
🚯 Organize three new community cleanups to inspire our citizens of all ages to work together to remove litter from our streets, parks, waterways, and public spaces;
♻ Host two reduce, reuse, recycle or beautification events each year, enhancing our community's appeal through reduced waste, public art, planting trees, flowers, and creating, improving or maintaining green spaces; and
🎉 Hold one event to celebrate our progress and achievements to help America look her best for her 250th anniversary celebration.

We're grateful that our Public Works take live Christmas trees after Christmas and all through January, which is helpful if you're like some of us who keep trees around for a while 😅
