Update (1:15PM): Power has been restored to Robinson Elementary, Dawson County Junior High, Hightower Academy, and the Board of Education Office. Network connectivity is currently coming back online, and phone service may experience temporary interruptions.

Alert (12:30PM): A power outage is affecting Robinson Elementary, Dawson County Junior High, Hightower Academy, and Central Office. This is causing network and phone outages at ALL district schools. All students and staff are safe. We will update you when services are restored.

Dawson County Junior High School student, Aadya Awasthi, was recognized Tuesday night for being named a national and state-level champion for SIFMA Foundation's InvestWrite Competition.

This year, 1,145 essays were submitted from students in grades 6–8 across the nation, and Aadya earned 1st Place in the entire country. She was also recognized as the Georgia State Winner.

This competition gives students the opportunity to use what they have learned about investing, economics, and the stock market and put those ideas into writing—helping students build real-world financial knowledge and confidence.

Our September 1Dawson Difference Maker was recognized at the board meeting earlier this week. Congratulations to Black's Mill Elementary School teacher, Ms. Natosha Beary, for being nominated by BMES peer, Ms. Caroline Turner.

In her nomination, Ms. Turner wrote, "Natosha has taken over the job of SPED lead this year, and she is already doing amazing with it. She is doing everything in her power to support her staff, and constantly checking in on those she's the lead of. She leads by example and is such a strong teacher herself. All of the staff and the kids respect her, and that's not by accident. She deserves all of the thanks for the hard work she's doing everyday!"

💜💙 September is National Su***de Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness, encourage open conversations, and remind our students, staff, and families that help, hope, and connection are always available. 💜💙

Today, our district offices wore teal and purple to:

💙Show support for su***de prevention and mental health awareness
💜Help reduce stigma and encourage conversations about mental health
💙Remind others that they are not alone
💜Promote hope, connection, and healthy coping strategies

Let’s continue to break the stigma, check on one another, and make sure everyone knows that their life matters. 💜💙
