Today, four members of Dawson County Emergency Services completed a 110-story stair climb in honor of the 343 FDNY firefighters who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

On the 25th anniversary of 9/11, we remember all those who lost their lives, the first responders who answered the call, and the families forever impacted by that day.

We will never forget.

This is your chance to use your creativity to help spread an important message about fire safety—and your artwork could even be featured on our Fire Safety House for the entire community to see!

We'll recognize one winner from each of the following age groups:

Create an original drawing with a fire safety theme. Let your imagination shine! Ideas could include:

UPDATE:

We have been getting many requests for specific information about the victim's of this weekends aircraft crash. Although we can't give specific information about the victims, we can report that both victims are doing well and should be released from the hospital soon. Per family members, both will require time to heal but should make a full recovery.

On Sunday around noon, deputies with the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office and personnel with Dawson County Emergency Services responded to a wooded area near Highway 183 in Dawson County in reference to a possible downed aircraft.

The investigation is being handled by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). All future media inquiries regarding the incident should be directed to the NTSB.

The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office will not be releasing any additional information regarding this incident.

Update:

A small aircraft crashed in a wooded area just outside of Elliot Air Field around noon today. Emergency crews responded to the scene and located the downed aircraft that had two occupants. One person was outside the aircraft, while the second person was heavily entrapped in the wreckage.

Crews immediately began providing care to the patient who was outside the aircraft, while additional responders worked to extricate the trapped patient.

One patient was transported by ground ambulance, while the second was transported by air ambulance. Both patients were in critical condition at the time of transport.

Their current conditions are unknown at this time.
