OPEN BURN PERIOD
APRIL 17, 2026 – APRIL 26, 2026
The burning period carries the same restrictions as past open burning seasons. Craig Sweet, City Fire Chief, stresses that burning barrels are not allowed to be used at any time during the year.
The following department safety regulations must be followed by those burning garden waste:
• NO open fires are allowed within 25 feet of a building, fence or other combustible material.
• OPEN fires may not be started or maintained when the wind may create a fire hazard.
• ALL fires are to be guarded with water, either hoses, pails or wet sacks. Fires must not be left unattended.
Other restrictions imposed by the City include:
• ONLY dry garden trimmings, tree clippings, lawn rakings, dry leaves, and needles may be burned by the property owner or his designee on the property where the material was generated.
• PILES of material must NOT EXCEED FOUR FEET in the greatest dimension. Only one pile at a time may be burned.
• WHEN a stagnation advisory is issued for this region by the National Weather Service, all open burned is prohibited. The prohibition is effective for the period of the advisory.
