Batter-up! The soldiers at Fort Spokane enjoyed playing baseball during their leisure time. On the field what mattered was how they hit, caught, or pitched; not their rank. The soldiers' team, the Boys in Blue, would play nearby farming communities.

What is your favorite sport to watch or play during your leisure time?

Image: Photo in black and white from 1894. Soldiers posed outside of building dressed in 1890's baseball uniforms holding baseball bats and gloves. In the middle is a sign stating, “Co. G, 4th Inf. 1894 B.B. Club Ft. Spokane Wash.”

As we move deeper into fire season, please be aware of your surroundings. Lake Roosevelt is a great water source for firefighting aircraft. If you see a plane approaching low, move towards the shore.
