2nd Annual SAU Bee Adaptive & Inclusive Basketball Game benefiting the Scott County Thunder Special Olympics Team. ๐Ÿ€โ›ˆ๏ธ

Sgt. Rodriguez volunteered his time on a Sunday to attend an awesome event hosted by the Davenport Police Department and St. Ambrose University. Great people, great energy, and an even better cause.

Events like this are bigger than basketball โ€” theyโ€™re about inclusion, community, and supporting athletes who inspire everyone around them.

Proud to see so many people come together to support the Scott County Thunder athletes and the Special Olympics community. Huge respect to everyone who helped make this happen. ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿ“ Serving for a Cause! ๐Ÿ“

The Iowa Department of Corrections โ€“ 7th District was proud to attend and participate in a Pickleball Fundraiser supporting Quad Cities Crime Stoppers.

Events like this are more than just friendly competition โ€” they directly support an important community resource that helps solve crimes and locate wanted fugitives in the Quad Cities area. Crime Stoppers provides a safe and anonymous way for citizens to share information, making a real impact on public safety.

Weโ€™re grateful to be part of a community that comes together โ€” on and off the court โ€” to support partnerships that keep our neighborhoods safe.

Strong partnerships. Stronger communities. ๐Ÿ’ช

The Davenport Police Department was proud to host the National De-Escalation Training Center for an intensive eight hour course focused on strengthening communication and de-escalation skills.

Members of the Davenport Police Department including the Crisis Negotiator Team, along with the Iowa Department of Corrections 7th Judicial District High Risk Unit, completed this specialized training to support readiness and enhance community safety and trust.

Investing in advanced training ensures our teams are equipped with the professionalism, empathy, and tools needed to safely resolve high risk situations. This course was made possible through grant funding from the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program.

We are thrilled to announce that on February 23rd, the 7th District IDOC will officially open the Resource Room!

The Challenge: In todayโ€™s world, getting back on your feet requires at least 2 things: access and community engagement. Applying for a job, securing housing, and accessing essential benefits all happen digitally and frequently require assistance from someone familiar with the specific process. For many working toward reentry, lack of access and assistance aren't just inconveniences, but barriers to building a stable life.

Our Solution: The Resource Room is a dedicated, quiet space equipped with computers and internet access designed to bridge this gap. It is a place where individuals can focus on building resumes, completing education, and finding housing.

๐Ÿ•’ Hours of Operation: Starting Feb. 23rd, the center will be open for walk-ins: Mondays: 12 - 4pm and Tuesdays & Thursdays: 8am โ€“ 12pm.

๐Ÿค We Need Your Vision: We believe that reentry is a community effort. While we are providing hardware and space, true success comes from people.

Because reentry is not "one-size-fits-all", we are taking a unique approach: We are adaptively developing this resource based on the feedback of the individuals utilizing the room. We don't have all the answers right now, but we are committed to keeping this space flexible to meet our clients' evolving needs.

This is where you come in. We would love to hear how your organization envisions partnering with the IDOC. We are issuing an open invitation to local nonprofits, employers, landlords, colleges, etc. to help us innovate.

We are looking for partners who can:

Host workshops (digital literacy, resume writing, etc.) Provide mentoring or job search assistance
Help us expand our hours to reach more people
Tell us your ideas! How can your services fit into this space? Get Involved: If you or your organization would like to partner with us to create opportunities for safer communities, please send an email to [email protected].

Letโ€™s work together to provide the tools our neighbors need to build independent, successful lives!

Community Outreach in Action!

Renee, Accounting Technician with the Iowa Department of Corrections-7th District (IDOC), recently represented our agency at a Junior Achievement event focused on changing the lives of young people through career exploration and mentorship.

She shared with students that IDOC offers many different career paths โ€” not just for criminal justice majors. From accounting and administration to programming, support services, and field operations, thereโ€™s a place for a wide range of talents within our agency.

What made it even more special? Her granddaughter attends the school. Investing in the next generation hits a little closer to home sometimes.

Thank you, Renee, for stepping up and representing IDOC-7th District so well and showing students the many ways they can serve their communities.

This event was part of our Justice Project Committee (JPC) Community Outreach efforts. ๐Ÿ’™

As we close out 2025, we want to take a moment to reflect on a year of success for the Iowa Department of Corrections (IDOC) โ€“ 7th District High Risk Unit (HRU).

Throughout the past year, HRU logged countless hours of specialized training alongside our law enforcement partners and participated in numerous community events across the District.

We extend our sincere thanks to our law enforcement partners at the city, county, state, and federal levels. Your support, guidance, and collaboration have been instrumental to the outcomes reflected below. The teamwork and partnerships we share play a critical role in keeping our communities safer. In addition, we would like to thank our staff at all levels within IDOC at the 7th District and with other Districts in the State, the communication and information sharing has been extremely helpful.

Over the course of the year, HRU served numerous warrants, often with the assistance of our local law enforcement partners and close relationship with other High Risk Units within the State. These efforts would not be possible without your continued support, and we are truly grateful for the collaboration.

2025 HRU Activity Summary:

423 home visits completed or attempted

264 absconders/escapees apprehended

93 field arrests

81 residential arrests

As we move forward, we remain committed to upholding our mission of enhancing public safety throughout the 7th District.

Weโ€™re ready for another strong year.

After 30 years in corrections, we celebrate Jim Miller and a career that truly made a difference.

Jimโ€™s passion for officer safety set him apart. From defensive tactics to OC spray, he was relentless in making sure staff went home safe at the end of every shift. He didnโ€™t just teach techniques โ€” he built confidence, awareness, and a mindset rooted in preparation and survival.

Jim impacted countless staff over the years, leading our defensive tactics training with purpose and professionalism, always pushing to improve, adapt, and raise the standard. Because of him, this agency is safer, stronger, and better prepared.

Thank you, Jim, for 30 years of dedication, leadership, and service. Your influence will continue long after your last day. Wishing you a well-earned and healthy retirement.

What an amazing night at the 3rd Annual Target Heroes & Helpers event! Huge thank-you to Target for sponsoring and supporting the children of Hope at the Brick House.

This event featured first responders and volunteers teamed up to help kids shop for holiday gifts for their families โ€” and even the Grinch showed up to help spread some Christmas cheer.

Nights like this remind us why community matters.

Grateful to be part of it.
