Happy Flag Day, Bristol County!

Tomorrow, June 15 at 11am, the Bristol County Sheriff's Office is proud to be hosting the Flag Sojourn 250 in celebration of our nation's 250th birthday.

After traveling through the U.S. territories and all 50 states, this flag will be transported to Washington D.C. to celebrate Independence Day.

The Bristol County Sheriff's Office is thrilled to fly this flag aboard the USS Massachusetts to honor and reflect upon the promise of a nation made 250 years ago.

Every year at the start of our Employee Week celebrations, the BCSO gathers at our memorial stone to reflect and honor those we have lost. Surrounded by family, friends, and colleagues, this ceremony serves as a solemn reminder of to carry on the legacy left by so many.

Two weeks ago, the BCSO celebrated the graduation of class 60-26. Thank you to all of the friends and family that attended the graduation, and congratulations to all of our new Correction Officers!

The BCSO offers its heatfelt and sincere condolences to the Massachusetts Department of Corrections after the loss of Correction Officer John Edwards, a 28-year DOC veteran.

It is with profound sadness that the Massachusetts Department of Correction announces the sudden line-of-duty death of Correction Officer John Edwards, a 28-year veteran of the Department assigned to North Central Correctional Institution in Gardner. This morning, Officer Edwards suffered a medical emergency at his post and passed away.

Commissioner Shawn Jenkins issued the following statement in tribute to the fallen officer:

“Today, we mourn the loss of Correction Officer John Edwards, who served the Department of Correction for nearly three decades with unwavering dedication to our public safety mission. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues, and offer them our full support in the difficult days ahead. His service will never be forgotten.”

Last week 33 recruits were officially sworn in as BCSO Correction Officers. Their accomplishments and hard work was celebrated alongside friends, family, and colleagues. Thank you to all that joined us for this special occasion, and welcome to the BCSO!

Earlier this week, Academy 60-26 posed for their official class photo. Tonight, after 12 weeks of intense hands-on learning, these recruits will officially become BCSO Correctional Officers.

We look forward to celebrating all of their accomplishments and hard work tonight among family, friends, and colleagues!

The BCSO Academy is filled with hands-on learning experiences that prepare our future COs for their new careers. Today the recruits were each sprayed with OC and then ran a complex obstacle course while being cheered on by their peers.

This Academy is just about halfway through their training, and their progress is visible. Check out some photos from today below.
