Darien's annual Household Hazardous Waste Day (HHWD) is scheduled for next Saturday, June 7th, from 9am - 1pm at the Noroton Heights Railroad Station. To see a list of what's accepted/not accepted, click on the link below. Can't make it? Darien participates in collections with several of our neighboring towns, so scroll down the list to see when other collections will be held. Hey Darien residents: DID YOU KNOW that in addition to what goes in your recycling bin there are additional materials that can be recycled at the Darien Recycling Center? These include: scrap metal, oversized plastics (think laundry baskets, plastic patio chairs, etc.), mattresses, tires, electronics, textiles, and food scraps! Inside the transfer station building are drop-offs for paint, batteries, light bulbs, and smoke detectors. Questions? Email [email protected].

Update on Swap Shop hours: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 8:30 am - noon for both shopping and dropping. Note that hours are subject to change and are posted near the gate house to the Recycling Center. For the most up-to-date information, follow "Darien Swap Shop" on Instagram.

After having been closed for a few months, the Darien Swap reopened this past Thursday, and lots of great housewares, toys, games, books, sports equipment, and small furniture has been moving in and out. The Swap Shop is open Thursday, Friday, Saturday, from 8:30am - 1pm for shopping/dropping, and from 1-2pm for drop-offs only, and is closed on rainy days. For the most up-to-date info on the Swap Shop, please follow . As a reminder, items dropped off must be USABLE - not broken, soiled, missing pieces, etc. If something comes in multiple pieces, kindly place in a ziplock bag or bundle pieces together and LABEL what it is! It's always helpful to indicate with a note any deficiencies in an otherwise usable item (e.g. a bike that needs a new tire). The objective of the Swap Shop is to REDUCE WASTE and organizing/labeling material coming in increases the likelihood that someone else might want to take it home! Questions? Email [email protected]. Got bags? The Swap Shop has been inundated with shopping bags since it reopened on Thursday. A few bags are helpful here but DID YOU KNOW that other places, such as the DCA Thrift Shop, are IN NEED of bags of all types (also bubble wrap and tissue paper!)? Please consider neatly organizing unwanted but clean/untorn bags and dropping them by the Thrift Store at 996 Post Road. Incidentally, most gift/shopping bags are not accepted in mixed (single stream) recycling unless the fabric/twine/plastic handles are removed and the bags are on the "plainer" side (i.e. no glitter or plastic-y type material). It's always best to bring your own reusable bags when you shop, but if you already have a bunch of these bags, please consider donating to places that really need them! Town of Darien, CT
