Branch Pickup is the Week of June 22

The City’s Public Works Branch Pickup Program is free for all single-family homes and provides for the collection and disposal of branches from residential properties. To help keep the streets clean and our crews on schedule, please stack the branches neatly by the curb on the Sunday before the pickup to ensure pickup. The chipping crew will make only one pass during the week of June 22 and may complete your street as soon as Monday morning. Branches are also accepted from May 1 until October 31 at the Municipal Services Facility, located at 1041 S. Frontage Road. Branches are accepted at this location Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

The Darien Police Department is aware of flyers circulating in the community that contain inaccurate and misleading information regarding our License Plate Reader (LPR) camera program. Fortunately, the Police Department has shared the following information on how the LPR system protects Darien residents:

The Darien Police Department has deployed Flock Safety LPR cameras at key entry and exit points throughout the city. These cameras are a law enforcement tool designed to capture license plate information from vehicles traveling on public roadways and compare that information against databases of vehicles associated with stolen vehicles, wanted persons, missing persons alerts, and active criminal investigations...Importantly, the system does not make enforcement decisions. When an alert is generated, officers must independently verify that the license plate was correctly read, confirm the plate and state match the vehicle of interest, and ensure the alert remains valid before taking any action. The technology serves as an investigative tool, while law enforcement officers remain responsible for evaluating the information and determining the appropriate response.

“The only way to keep government going is to get young people involved.”
-Janet Sirabian

One of the greatest challenges facing our nation today is declining trust in public institutions, particularly government. This reality is reflected in many ways, including the low voter participation rates we continue to see in local, state, and national elections. Some individuals believe we can address this issue through our current teaching of Civics in our local schools, but while Civics Education remains an important part of our schools’ curriculum, classroom instruction alone is not enough to reverse this trend.
