The Youth Community Fund (YCF) is a group of high school students who learn about philanthropy and the role of nonprofits in our community. Students engage in a variety of volunteer projects at different local nonprofit organizations, raise funds for the YCF grants pool, review nonprofit applications, conduct site visits, and collectively agree on how best to allocate funds, approximately $15,000, to local nonprofit organizations.

Towards the end of the school year, our Youth Community Fund (YCF) students identify a group of local nonprofit organizations to consider for funding. The YCF students review grant applications and conduct site visits at the nonprofits and collectively agree on how best to allocate the funds. This year, the students awarded a total of $18,000 to 16 local nonprofits. Well done, YCF! πŸ‘πŸ’™πŸ‘πŸ’™πŸ‘

2025-2026 Youth Asset Team (YAT) Highlight

This year, Youth Representatives invited The Community Fund's YAT to help design posters for the Nicotine/Vaping Education Poster Campaign.

YAT students learned about the health risks associated with va**ng and explored how to***co and ni****ne companies' market flavored products to appeal to youth. They then partnered with the Thriving Youth Darien Youth Representatives to turn what they learned into educational posters designed to raise awareness and encourage informed decision-making among their peers.

The Student posters were displayed in local Darien shops, including:
Bareburger
Burgers Shakes & Fries
Darien Library
Gofers Ice Cream
Height’s Pizza
Palmer's Market
Playa Bowls
Raphael’s Bakery
Riko's Pizza
Saint Luke's Episcopal Church

Well done to these 27 Darien 9th graders. πŸ‘πŸ‘ A year of connection and giving back! πŸ’™

From September 2025 to April 2026, Freshman Community Group (FCG) students explored key topics around the high school transition β€” such as managing stress, building friendships, and understanding substance use β€” through sessions led by a licensed clinical social worker. In addition to these mental health discussions, students learned about local human service needs and volunteered at a variety of community nonprofits!

Here’s what they did:
β€’ Harvested & gardened at 🌱
β€’ Packed 900 meals at πŸ₯«
β€’ Racked leaves and staffed events at πŸ‚
β€’ Organized donations at πŸ‘•
β€’ Played games with ’s Sports Buddies πŸ€
