To help protect Georgia’s livestock, pets, and #1 industry - agriculture, the Georgia Department of Agriculture has implemented enhanced interstate animal movement requirements for all warm-blooded animals entering Georgia from Texas and four New Mexico counties following recent detections of New World Screwworm (NWS).

• If you are coming from an infested zone, follow the guidance in Box 1.
• If you are coming from Eddy, Chaves, Lea, or Roosevelt County, New Mexico, or parts of Texas not in the “infested zone,” follow the guidance in Box 2.

Have you seen these little polka-dotted hoppers around lately? Mid-June is when Spotted Lanternfly nymphs are active and growing through several life stages before becoming the adults we see later in the summer.

These lanternflies make a mess. Trees ooze fluids from their feeding, and the insect excretes sugary fluids, causing sooty mold growth. They won’t bite, but they can be a nuisance by gathering in large numbers. You can help combat lanternflies by tracking this pest population.

If you spot one, here's what to do:
1. Take a photo
2. Kill the insect
3. Report here: https://warnell.cc/ReportSLF

Every report helps researchers track populations and protect vulnerable landscapes.

While there are no New World Screwworm cases in Georgia, we’re asking livestock and pet owners to keep a close watch on their animals.

The most important thing you can do is know the signs and report suspected cases immediately.

Watch for:
• Draining or enlarging wounds
• Maggots or egg masses in wounds
• Signs of discomfort
• Lesions in body openings (nose, ears, genitalia, umbilical area)

Early detection is critical to protecting animal health. If you suspect NWS, report it right away to the Animal Health Division at 404-656-3667 or [email protected]

You're Invited!

The Coastal Resources Division of The Georgia Department of Natural Resources' Georgia Coastal Management Program is hosting a "Build Your Own Rain Barrel Workshop" in partnership with Coca-Cola United!

Did you know: A rain barrel can save most homeowners 2,000 gallons of water each year which can be used for watering gardens, washing cars and other projects around the house?

At the workshop, rain barrel installation, maintenance and safety are discussed, along with instructions for the conversion kit which includes ALL parts needed for installation. Staff will be on hand with the hardware supplies and tools necessary to help you assemble the barrels on-site – ready to take home and use. The conversion kit uses a diverter system which eliminates the need for cutting off gutter downspouts, mosquitoes and over-flow valves.

Registration fee is $45 and includes the 50-gallon drum, instructions and all supplies needed to build your own rain barrel. Please note that if registering for this workshop you must attend the educational presentation and construct your rain barrel at the workshop. Registration will be limited and is available on a first come basis.

Please only register for either the morning or afternoon session, as spots are limited.

📅 When? June 11th, 2026, 9AM-11AM or 1PM-3PM
📍 Where? Georgia DNR Coastal Regional Headquarters in Brunswick, GA

Spot a wild pig? Don’t just walk past it, squeal on it 🐗📍

Every report you submit helps piece together a bigger picture of feral swine activity: where they’re showing up, how they’re moving, and what risks they may be carrying. That kind of information turns into real-world action for researchers and land managers working to track damage patterns, reduce disease spread, and improve control strategies.

You can report sightings directly on our website or by downloading the Squeal On Pigs!® app at squealonpigs.com.

More reports mean clearer data. Clearer data means better decisions. And that helps protect land, wildlife, and livestock alike. 🐗
