Our century plant is a "mother"! She's started sending out the "pups" or offspring that will live on after the mother plant finishes blooming and dies off. When the time is right, (it's too early now) city employees will carefully remove the pups and replant them in other public locations around the city so that they will continue grow.

City employee, Arlene Young, is reporting that all 3 stalks on our century plant are continuing to grow and that stalks 2 and 3 might bloom by next week. 💚

May 29, 2026 update: Now she's just showing off!
Not just one, not two, but THREE stalks are on the century plant in the median of the 200 block of Fort King George Drive and based on what I've researched this is exceedingly rare, with a less than 1% chance of occurrence. These are not pups, these are definitely stalks. And if you zoom in on the pictures you will start to see that her flowers of the main stalk are developing nicely too. 💚 Thanks again to city employee Arlene Young for keeping us updated with the pictures!

The Century plant in the 200 block of Fort King George drive is developing its flower clusters nicely. Thanks to Arlene Young, Darien City employee, for this shot too as we are able to zoom in and show you the detail of the flower clusters. 💚

Unknown Soldier Post #137, American Legion Darien Georgia honored those who served by placing almost 900 American flags on graves throughout the City of Darien and McIntosh County. Let us remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, not just this Memorial Day, but every day. Thank you for your service.
