During the August Regular Session City Council Meeting, Mayor Pro Tem Griffin Lotson was presented with two prestigious awards from the University of Georgia, recognizing his dedication to public service, leadership, and professional development:

• The Robert E. Knox, Jr. Award
• Certificate of Excellence

The awards were presented by Pam Helton, Member Services Consultant with the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA), in recognition of Mayor Pro Tem Lotson's commitment to ongoing education and municipal leadership training.

The Certificate of Excellence requires the completion of 120 hours of training through the Georgia Municipal Association and the University of Georgia's Carl Vinson Institute of Government. Ms. Helton noted that the Robert E. Knox, Jr. Municipal Leadership Institute involves "intense training" designed to better prepare municipal leaders to address future challenges and opportunities facing Georgia's cities.

This achievement marks a significant moment for the City of Darien. Mayor Pro Tem Lotson noted that this is the first time in Darien's history, dating back to 1736, that a senior elected official has earned and received these distinguished awards during a City Council meeting.

Mayor Hugh "Bubba" Hodge congratulated Mayor Pro Tem Lotson, calling the accomplishment a "great honor" and emphasizing the importance of proper training and continuing education for elected officials to effectively serve their communities.
Mayor Pro Tem Lotson expressed his gratitude for the recognition, describing the achievement as "a dream come true."

Please join the City of Darien in congratulating Mayor Pro Tem Griffin Lotson on this outstanding accomplishment and his continued dedication to the citizens of Darien.

Congratulations, Mayor Pro Tem Lotson!
